Kenneth Petty was ordered to serve 120 days of home detention in September 2023 after a reported probation violation. The order was an additional consequence, separate from the one-year home-confinement term imposed as part of his 2022 sentence for failing to register as a sex offender.
Why was Kenneth Petty ordered to serve home detention?
Entertainment Tonight reported that a court order filed September 20, 2023, in the Central District of California directed Petty to serve 120 days of home detention. ET said the order described Petty as having been “recorded on video making threatening remarks to a specific individual while in the company of someone with a criminal record.” The reported wording did not name the individual. ET’s September 2023 account attributed the description to the order.
ET reported that social-media clips posted September 16 appeared to target rapper Offset. That was ET’s identification of the apparent target in the clips, not a name specified in the quoted description of the court order. ET’s report quoted Petty in one clip saying, “You plan that vacation, you’ll be planning your funeral.”
How did the 2023 order differ from Petty’s 2022 sentence?
The 120 days were not the same as the one-year home-confinement sentence Petty received in 2022. The two actions were reported as distinct:

| Court action | Reported context | Home restriction | Other reported terms |
|---|---|---|---|
| July 2022 sentence | Guilty plea to failure to register as a sex offender | One year of home confinement | Three years of probation and a $55,000 fine |
| September 2023 order | Reported probation violation following video-recorded remarks | 120 days of home detention | No additional terms stated in ET’s report |
ET reported the original sentence based on confirmation from a U.S. Attorney’s Office public information officer. Its July 2022 report said Petty had pleaded guilty in September 2021 to one count of failure to register.
How the registration case led to the 2022 sentence
ET reported that Petty moved from New York to California in 2019 and was found not registered in California during a traffic stop in November of that year. He was indicted for failure to register in March 2020, according to ET’s account of the case.

For background, ET reported that Petty and the girl involved in the underlying 1994 incident were both 16 at the time; Petty later pleaded guilty to attempted rape, served more than four years in prison, and was required to register as a sex offender. ET’s 2022 report described that history.
Did the court order name Offset?
Not in the order language quoted by ET: it referred to remarks aimed at a “specific individual” without naming that person. ET separately described the September 16 clips as appearing to target Offset. The distinction matters because the identification of Offset came from ET’s reporting on the clips, not from the quoted order description.

What is known about the outcome?
The reports establish that a 120-day home-detention order was filed in September 2023. They do not establish whether later proceedings changed the order or whether Petty completed the period.
