Kelly Zajfen publicly described Meghan Markle as “one of my closest friends” after they attended the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala together. In a message reported by The Independent, Zajfen praised Markle’s support for the hospital and community, and thanked the hospital for caring for her daughter.
What Kelly Zajfen said about Meghan Markle
The Independent reported on October 9, 2024, that Zajfen posted the message to Instagram on October 7, alongside a photo of herself with Markle at the gala. Zajfen wrote: “I was also beyond grateful to share in this beautiful evening with one of my closest friends. Meg, your commitment to supporting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and community is truly inspiring. I’m so grateful to have you by my side,” the outlet reported.
The phrase “one of my closest friends” is Zajfen’s own public description of their relationship. The report does not establish further private details about their friendship.
Why the gala mattered to Zajfen
Zajfen’s caption also thanked Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for caring for her daughter Lily, whom The Independent reported has a heart condition. The outlet quoted Zajfen praising the hospital team’s kindness, hope, care, expertise, and support for her family. These are Zajfen’s account of her family’s experience, not an independent assessment of the hospital’s outcomes.

Their charity work together
The Independent described Zajfen as a longtime friend of Markle and noted other occasions when their charitable work intersected:
- Zajfen had praised Markle and Prince Harry after they attended an annual tennis tournament held in memory of her son Georgie, who died in 2022 after a viral illness. The event raised funds for the Alliance for Children’s Rights, and the Archewell Foundation sponsored the tournament.
- Markle, Zajfen, and Abigail Spencer took part in an Alliance of Moms campaign wearing shirts that read “Love Like A Mother.” The organization supports parenting youth in Los Angeles’ foster care system.
These details provide charity context for Zajfen’s praise of Markle’s commitment to the hospital and community; they do not add independent verification of the personal relationship described in her caption.
