Kelly Key co-founded Kiala FC, an Angolan youth-football project, with her husband, Mico Freitas. July 2025 reports disagree about her formal title: Poder360 and TNOnline call her the club’s president, while ge calls her vice-president. Key described herself as the only woman presiding over a football club in Angola, but the reports do not independently verify that broader claim.
What is Kiala FC?
Kiala FC is a Luanda-area football project combining youth sport with social support. Kelly Key and Angolan businessman Mico Freitas co-founded it. The date of its founding is reported differently: ge’s 14 July 2025 interview dates it to October 2023, while Poder360’s 11 July 2025 report says it was founded in 2024. The available accounts do not reconcile those dates.

In the ge interview, Key said the project served around 70 adolescents. She described football training, three meals a day for selected boys, vocational courses and emotional support. Those are figures and service descriptions reported in an interview, not independently audited totals.
What role does Kelly Key hold?
Coverage published in July 2025 uses two different titles. Poder360 and TNOnline describe Key as president of Kiala FC; ge’s detailed interview identifies her as vice-president. Because the accounts conflict, it is more accurate to attribute the title to the outlet than to present one as settled fact. The reporting cited here does not establish whether her title changed after July 2025.

Is she the only woman leading a football club in Angola?
Key made that claim herself. Poder360 reproduced her statement: “Ser a única mulher na presidência de um clube de futebol em Angola e, talvez, em toda a África, não é sobre vaidade. É sobre visão!” In English: “Being the only woman in the presidency of a football club in Angola and, perhaps, across all of Africa, is not about vanity. It is about vision!” The word “perhaps” matters: even in her quoted statement, the extension to Africa is qualified.
The July 2025 reports reviewed do not provide a comprehensive count of club leaders in Angola or independently establish that Key was the only woman in such a role. The claim should therefore be understood as her description, not as a verified national statistic.

What has Kiala FC achieved, and what are its plans?
ge and TNOnline report that Kiala’s under-17 and under-19 teams won provincial Series B1 competitions in 2025. Those youth-team results are distinct from the project’s longer-term ambitions: in the ge interview, Key described professionalizing the club and exporting Angolan players as goals, not completed achievements.
Key also described a commitment with Flamengo for youth exchange, according to ge. The interview initially referred to another Brazilian club without naming it; ge identified it as Atlético-MG. These partnership details reflect the July 2025 account and do not establish whether the arrangements or plans have since changed.

What investment figures were reported?
In the 2025 ge interview, Key and Freitas were reported to have invested at least R$500,000 in the project. The same account put the cost of each field at approximately 30 million Angolan kwanzas, or about R$182,000 using the exchange-rate estimate in that article. That conversion is tied to the article’s estimate, not a current exchange rate. These are interview-reported amounts, not independently audited accounts.
What the reporting establishes—and what it does not
- Established in the cited accounts: Key and Freitas co-founded Kiala FC, a youth-football project in Angola, and July 2025 coverage described social-support activities and youth-team competition results.
- Reported inconsistently: Key’s title is given as president by Poder360 and TNOnline, and vice-president by ge.
- Not independently established: the claim that she was the only woman leading a club in Angola, a comprehensive count of women in club leadership, or whether her title and Kiala’s status changed after July 2025.
ANCAF describes itself as an association dedicated to professionalizing club football in Angola, but its media page does not verify Kiala FC’s leadership or Key’s “only woman” claim.
