What is known about his relationship with his father?
Reeves has said that he did not have a substantive relationship with his biological father. That is the clearest source-backed description of their relationship; it does not establish the reasons for the distance or how Reeves felt about it. The Guardian interview is the source for his account.
When did his parents separate?
The sources do not agree on the timing. The Hollywood Walk of Fame biography says Reeves was three and gives a 1966 divorce date, while a 2024 EL PAÍS profile says he was seven. How did his stepfather enter the story?
Reeves told The Guardian that his stepfather, filmmaker Paul Aaron, arranged for him to work as a production assistant on a film during a school summer holiday when he was about 15. Reeves recalled that Aaron had to decide what to do with him over the summer and made him a production assistant. This was an early introduction to film work, separate from what is known about his relationship with his biological father.
