Kaushaljis Vs Kaushal is most compelling when it stays with Sahil and Sangeeta, a long-married couple considering divorce. Ashutosh Rana and Sheeba Chaddha make their loneliness and distance feel credible; the film is less consistent when it shifts toward the younger generation. Whether that balance works for you depends on how much patience you have for its family and romance detours.
What is Kaushaljis Vs Kaushal about?
Directed by Seemaa Desai, the film follows Sahil and Sangeeta Kaushal as their marriage reaches a breaking point and divorce becomes a possibility. Their children have to reckon with what that decision would mean for the family. The premise gives the story room to explore how a relationship can become lonely even after years together, without making the older couple’s crisis simply a backdrop for their children.
Desai described her aim to Mid-Day this way: “I wanted to tackle the loneliness of the older couple and how distance leads them to seek divorce after 50.” Read the Mid-Day interview with the director.
Do the older couple carry the film?
They are its strongest element. Rana and Chaddha give Sahil and Sangeeta a lived-in quality that makes the strain between them more affecting than a simple argument over whether to stay married. Their performances are the main reason the central relationship holds attention.

Scroll’s review makes the same distinction: it finds the older couple’s scenes the film’s best, but argues that too much attention goes to son Yug’s romance and work ambitions. That diversion matters because the marriage is the story’s most distinctive thread; time spent elsewhere can weaken its momentum. Read Scroll’s review.
What do critics think of its pacing and ending?
The cited reviews differ in emphasis, rather than yielding a single verdict. Hindustan Times calls the film light and breezy and praises Rana and Chaddha for making its portrayal of loneliness believable, while finding that the climax does not land as effectively as the setup. OTTplay is substantially less enthusiastic, rating the film 1.5/5 and describing it as a definite miss apart from one scene featuring Rana. That is the publication’s critical judgment, not an audience-wide score. Read OTTplay’s review.
Is Kaushaljis Vs Kaushal worth watching?
It is worth considering if you are drawn to relationship dramas about older couples and want to see Rana and Chaddha anchor a story about marital distance. Go in expecting an uneven balance: the central marriage has more emotional pull than the younger characters’ subplots, and critics disagree about how well the film brings that marriage story to a close. If a weak or underwhelming climax is a deal-breaker, the mixed reviews are a reason to temper expectations.
