Variety describes Perry appearing in Rosie the Riveter-inspired and bionic looks before the video shifts into a chaotic setting. In a sequence described by ABC Audio, Paytas drags a monster truck with a rope, then rides with Perry; the pair drive on and crush a car. Paytas’s appearance is a cameo within the video’s larger spectacle.
Why did Perry call the imagery satire?
Perry said the opening’s heightened presentation was deliberate rather than a straightforward empowerment image. In behind-the-scenes comments reported by Rolling Stone on July 15, 2024, she called it “sarcastic” and “very slapstick,” saying the video was “overplaying” its gaze and imagery before a reset leads into a different world.
