Us Weekly reported on June 1, 2024, that Katy Perry rewrote Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s controversial Benedictine College commencement speech for Pride Month. The exact wording and full context of Perry’s post could not be independently confirmed from the available record, so the reported rewrite should not be treated as a verified transcript.
What Butker said at Benedictine College
Butker delivered the commencement address at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, on May 11, 2024. The National Catholic Register published a full transcript on May 16. In the address, Butker discussed women’s roles and homemaking, Pride month, abortion, and Catholic teaching. He told women graduates, “I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.” Read the National Catholic Register transcript.

What is known about Perry’s rewrite
Us Weekly’s June 1, 2024 report described Perry as rewriting Butker’s speech for Pride Month. The report’s underlying article and the exact text of the purported rewrite were not available for verification here. Accordingly, the claim can be attributed to Us Weekly, but specific lines, wording, or the platform and context of Perry’s post should not be presented as confirmed. Us Weekly’s report.
How the speech was received
The Associated Press reported that Butker received a standing ovation from graduates and others at the ceremony. AP also interviewed graduates whose reactions differed, so the ovation describes the visible response in the room rather than unanimous agreement. The NFL said Butker spoke in his personal capacity: senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer Jonathan Beane stated, “Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization.” Associated Press coverage.
