The first sighting did not establish that they were dating; later milestones offered clearer public evidence.
What the first public sighting established
July 2025: dinner in Montreal
The Associated Press reported that Perry and Trudeau had dinner at Le Violon in Montreal in July 2025. Restaurant communications consultant Samantha Jin confirmed the dinner to AP and said, “No visual signs of PDA or anything.” That observation describes what the restaurant representative saw; it neither proves nor rules out a private relationship. AP characterized romance as speculative at the time, and spokespeople were unavailable for comment. Associated Press
When dating was reported as confirmed
October 2025: Paris
The Los Angeles Times later reported that Perry and Trudeau confirmed they were dating in Paris in October 2025. This was a clearer milestone than the Montreal dinner: the earlier report established they had met for dinner, while the Paris account described a dating confirmation. Los Angeles Times
How the relationship became public on social media
December 2025: Japan
During a visit to Japan, Perry shared a photo of herself with Trudeau and a video of the pair eating sushi. The Guardian reported that the Instagram posts brought the relationship directly to her social-media audience and became a widely covered public milestone. The Guardian
What later reports and remarks added
February 2026: an unnamed source’s characterization
In February 2026, Entertainment Tonight described the relationship as becoming “much more serious,” attributing that characterization to an unnamed source. It was not a public statement from Perry or Trudeau, and it does not independently establish private details about the relationship. Entertainment Tonight
June 2026: Trudeau’s match-day remark
In June 2026, Trudeau attended a United States World Cup match where Perry performed. The Associated Press reported that he called himself a supportive boyfriend, saying, “Sometimes supportive boyfriend duties call.” This is an attributable public remark in the context of that match, not evidence of the relationship’s status after the report. The public account is strongest when each milestone is kept within its evidentiary limits:
- Observed event: the Montreal dinner was confirmed by a restaurant representative, but AP said romance was speculative then.
- Reported dating confirmation: the Los Angeles Times placed a confirmation in Paris in October 2025.
- Public social-media milestone: Perry’s Japan posts in December 2025 made the relationship visible on her Instagram.
- Attributed private characterization: the February 2026 description of the relationship as more serious came from an unnamed source.
- On-record public remark: Trudeau’s June 2026 boyfriend comment was reported by AP in the setting of Perry’s performance and the match.
The available dated coverage runs through June 2026; it does not establish the couple’s relationship status on October 8, 2026.
