Katica nagymama is a short Hungarian script built around a comic role reversal: Katica tries being a grandmother, then decides she would rather return to childhood and play. A closely related preschool-play version appears under the title Katica és nagymama. The available listings do not establish who wrote either text or how the versions are related.
What happens in Katica nagymama?
In the text listed on Scribd as Katica nagymama, a grandmother sits knitting in an armchair. She asks Lacika to fetch her ball of yarn and later her glasses. Katica notices the attention grandmother receives and decides she wants to be a grandmother too.
Grandmother invites Katica into the armchair. In her new role, Katica asks Lacika for a newspaper, although she cannot yet read. Grandmother suggests activities associated with her own routine—knitting, sewing, crocheting, and mending stockings—but Katica would rather play with the cat and join Lacika’s game of tag.
When Katica hears that grandmothers stay seated, get up early, work a lot, and welcome rest, she changes her mind. She wants to be a child again. Grandmother agrees that she should go and play, then returns to her chair to rest. The script’s joke comes from Katica’s shift in perspective; it is not a general statement about older people or grandmothers.

Who are the characters?
- Katica: The child who tries on the grandmother role, then chooses play.
- Grandmother: Knitting in her armchair at the start, she helps Katica try out the role.
- Lacika: The child asked to fetch things and join Katica’s game.
- The cat: Part of the play Katica would rather pursue than sit in the chair.
These roles are named in the preschool-resource version as well. Its wording and some stage directions differ from the Scribd text.
How do the two versions differ?
The Scribd listing uses the title Katica nagymama. A preschool-resource page published on 5 April 2022 presents a close variant titled Katica és nagymama (“Katica and Grandmother”) in a collection described as Aprócska szerepek ovisoknak (“short roles for preschoolers”). Both versions share the central role reversal and Katica’s decision to return to childhood, but they should not be silently treated as identical scripts.
