What is The Hunt for Gollum?
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is a planned feature set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth from Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema. Their May 2024 announcement described it as the first of two new Middle-earth films and named Serkis to direct and star. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens were announced as part of the returning creative team.
In that announcement, Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens said: “It is an honour and a privilege to travel back to Middle-earth with our good friend and collaborator, Andy Serkis, who has unfinished business with that Stinker – Gollum!” The remark concerned Serkis and the project, not Winslet’s casting.
