The Princess of Wales, widely known as Kate Middleton, delivered her first public speech in more than two years on 18 November 2025, addressing the Future Workforce Summit in London. The Royal Foundation said she spoke to more than 80 UK business leaders about early-childhood development, the focus of her Centre for Early Childhood. The speech followed her cancer diagnosis announcement in March 2024, but the summit was about her established early-years advocacy—not her illness.
When and where did Kate Middleton speak?
The Princess addressed the Future Workforce Summit in London on 18 November 2025. The Royal Foundation said the event was hosted by its Business Taskforce for Early Childhood and brought together more than 80 UK business leaders. Contemporaneous reports described it as her first public speech in over two years and her first since she announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. It was not her first public appearance after the diagnosis: she had resumed public duties before the summit.
ABC News reported that she announced her cancer was in remission in January 2025. She has not disclosed her cancer type, and the speech did not concern her diagnosis or treatment.
What cause was the speech about?
The subject was early-childhood development: how relationships and environments in the earliest years shape children’s lives, and how businesses can contribute to children’s wellbeing and society. The Princess launched the Royal Foundation’s Centre for Early Childhood in June 2021. The Foundation says the Centre conducts research, works across private, public and voluntary sectors, and runs campaigns to raise awareness and encourage action. Its position is that the early years matter to later health and social challenges; that broad framing is the Foundation’s, rather than a claim that one intervention guarantees a particular outcome.

The summit connected that cause with the future workforce. The Foundation said the Centre released The Human Advantage, prepared by Deloitte, at the event. The report considered the role of human skills as AI takes on more technical tasks. The Foundation reported that 81% of surveyed business leaders expected demand for human skills to increase over the next five to 10 years. It also said few interviewees identified early childhood as important to developing those skills. These findings describe leaders’ expectations and awareness; they do not prove that a specific early-years program causes business success.
What did the Princess say?
The Royal Foundation’s event account quoted the Princess: “At The Centre for Early Childhood, we believe that we must do all we can to create the conditions for love to flourish. That is how we invest in our future.”

A longer transcript published by Royal Central develops the speech’s themes: nurturing relationships shape children’s emotional worlds, the environments around them matter, and business leaders can pursue profitability alongside positive social impact. Royal Central’s transcript records the line, “Love is the first and most essential bond.”
Why does the Royal Foundation connect early childhood with business?
The Foundation presents investment in early childhood as both a social priority and a long-term economic concern. Its account of the Business Taskforce’s first-year report, Prioritising early childhood for a happier, healthier society, says the report estimated at least £45.5 billion in annual value added to the national economy. The Taskforce was established in March 2023. The figure is the report’s estimate, not an independently established outcome or a measure of the summit’s impact.

The Foundation also points to public awareness as part of the case for action. It says a 2022 survey found that 17% of the UK population identified pregnancy to age five as the most important period for shaping a child’s future. Its 2020 “5 Big Questions” survey received 500,000 responses, which the Foundation describes as the largest response to a public survey of its kind. Both figures are attributed to the Foundation’s accounts; they should not be read as proof that the public agrees on a particular policy or program.

The summit was a return to public speaking on a cause the Princess has pursued for several years. Its argument was that nurturing relationships and environments in early childhood have value beyond individual families, and that employers and other institutions can consider their role in supporting them. The speech was not a cancer update, and the available reporting does not establish that the summit marked a change in her health or working schedule.
