Kate Hudson’s February 2026 red-carpet hairstyle was reported as a freshly layered, collarbone-length cut with curtain bangs—not a confirmed short bob. Glamour described its shape as a wispy shag with cascading face-framing layers, worn sleek and pin-straight. The available coverage does not establish that it was her shortest haircut in years.
What is Kate Hudson’s new haircut called?
At the Costume Designers Guild Awards in Los Angeles on February 12, 2026, Hudson wore what Glamour described as a short, wispy shag. Its more specific description is collarbone-length hair with waterfall layers, curtain bangs and cascading pieces around the face. That length detail matters: although the article’s headline calls it a shaggy bob, its account does not establish a conventional, above-the-shoulder bob.
The finish was sleek and pin-straight, with feathered softness through the layers rather than a sharply blunt edge or a pronounced flipped-out shape. The description “flippy layered bob” therefore does not precisely capture the reported look. Glamour’s account is available in its February 2026 coverage.
Was it a real bob, or a faux bob?
Hudson’s February 2026 style was reported as a freshly layered haircut. It is distinct from the sculpted faux bob she wore at the Governors Awards on November 16, 2025. That earlier look sat above the shoulders, but her hairstylist, Marcus Francis, told NewBeauty, “We didn’t cut her hair.” He used styling techniques to create the bob-like shape.

NewBeauty’s account of the 2025 styling quotes Francis directly. Allure also reported on the event look the following day and said it had not confirmed who cut Hudson’s hair; that uncertainty should not be mistaken for evidence of a real cut. See Allure’s November 17, 2025 report.
How to ask a stylist for the layered cut
Use the description of the 2026 look as a starting point, not as a prescription for every hair type. You could ask for “collarbone-length layers with a soft, wispy shag shape, curtain bangs and cascading face-framing pieces.” Bring reference photos and be specific about how much length you want to keep.

- Clarify where the shortest face-framing pieces should fall.
- Discuss how much layering to add and whether you want the ends to remain soft or look more defined.
- Ask how the bangs and layers will sit with your natural texture and usual styling routine.
A red-carpet description cannot determine how the same cut will behave on different hair. Your stylist can adapt the length, layers and fringe to your hair and preferences.

For the straight, polished finish shown in the February 2026 coverage, Glamour says a flat iron is the easiest tool and advises using heat protectant. Work in manageable sections and follow the product and tool instructions for temperature and use; the source does not report which flat iron Hudson used.

This styling direction is different from guidance for a bouncy layered bob. In a general article about that related style, hairstylist Edward James recommends root lift and softer ends, using a round brush or a blow-dry brush to help set bounce.
