The episode about her case is “The Strange Disappearance of Karlie Guse,” Season 7, Episode 5 of People Magazine Investigates. The program examines the disappearance; its listing does not establish what happened to her.
What happened to Karlie Gusé?
The FBI says Karlie was reported missing on October 13, 2018, after family saw her at the residence in the White Mountain Estates area of Chalfant Valley, Mono County. The FBI listing says witnesses later saw her walking south, about 30 yards east of Highway 6 and 100 yards south of Sierra View Road. California’s Department of Justice gives the last-seen location as Bishop. These are the respective agencies’ descriptions, not identical location statements. The FBI missing-person listing and California DOJ record both list her as missing.
What the records say about her
The FBI record uses the spelling “Gusé”; California DOJ and the episode title use “Guse.” The FBI describes her as 5 feet 7 inches tall and 110 pounds at the time she disappeared, with blue eyes, dark-blonde hair, and a pierced left nostril. California DOJ lists brown hair and says she may wear glasses, so the agencies’ physical descriptions differ.
The FBI says she was likely wearing gray sweatpants or jeans, a white T-shirt, and Vans shoes, and that personal belongings, including her mobile phone, were left at the residence. California DOJ lists a white shirt and gray sweatpants. Clothing is described as likely, not certain.

What remains unknown
The FBI says a thorough search and subsequent investigation had not located Karlie, and that it and the Mono County Sheriff’s Office continue seeking information. The records cited here do not establish a cause, suspect, motive, abduction, crime, or death. The FBI’s current listing includes tip information and an offer of up to $5,000 for information leading to her location; contact details and reward terms can change.
A June 2026 chronology by American Crime Journal describes the case as open and active and discusses a reported Tonopah lead, while noting that authorities had not publicly disclosed its outcome. That is the publisher’s account, not an official update confirming what the lead established. American Crime Journal’s timeline should be read with that distinction in mind.
