What is Karan Johar’s estimated net worth?
The Hurun India Rich List 2025 estimated Johar’s wealth at ₹1,880 crore, according to Mint’s report of 2 October 2025. This is the latest located published estimate, not a personal financial statement. The reviewed source does not provide a detailed calculation method for Johar’s figure, and no verified personal balance sheet establishes his assets and liabilities.
Why Dharma Productions’ valuation is not his personal net worth
Forbes reported on 21 October 2024 that Serene Productions agreed to invest ₹10 billion (₹1,000 crore) for a 50% stake in Dharma Productions. The transaction implied a company valuation of ₹20 billion (₹2,000 crore), with Johar retaining a 50% stake after completion, as reported by Forbes.
Those are company-level transaction terms, not a separate estimate of Johar’s personal wealth. A company valuation does not by itself establish what an owner’s stake is worth in personal financial terms, or account for other assets, liabilities, taxes, or income. It would therefore be misleading to treat half of the reported Dharma valuation as a calculation of his net worth.

What Dharma’s business tells us—and what it does not
Dharma Productions’ official overview identifies Johar and Adar Poonawalla as owners and describes the business as a film studio, production house, and distribution company. It says Dharma has produced more than 60 films and lists Dharmatic Entertainment, Dharma 2.0, and Dharma Collab Artists Agency among its business branches. The page also identifies Johar as a producer, director, talk-show host, and entrepreneur.
This is useful context for the businesses associated with Johar, but the company page does not disclose his personal earnings from them. It cannot confirm or independently calculate the Hurun estimate.
What Johar has said about his finances
In a report published on 27 February 2026, The Indian Express attributed a comment to Johar about the gap between his projected lifestyle and his bank balance: “I may live a certain life and project a certain lifestyle but please look at my accounts and it will be ‘yeh toh naam bada hai darshan chota hai’.” That remark offers qualitative context, not a numerical correction to the Hurun estimate.
The same report said Johar speculated that Poonawalla might seek an exit from the Dharma deal at some point. It described a possible future exit, not a completed one.
