No. The 2023 reports reviewed do not establish that Kanye West or Bianca Censori was arrested, formally charged, fined, or found responsible after photographs from a Venice water-taxi ride circulated online. The images prompted speculation and social-media calls for West’s arrest, while contemporary Italian coverage reported an inquiry by Venice municipal police.
What did the Venice photographs show?
The story concerned a late-August 2023 water-taxi ride in Venice. Sky TG24 reported on 31 August that a video by Whoopsee and photographs circulated after West and Censori were seen aboard a boat. Its account described West sitting at the rear with his trousers lowered, while noting they might have been unfastened or torn. Sky TG24’s report said the images had been acquired by Venice local police.

The images led to speculation that an intimate or sexual act had taken place. But that speculation should not be confused with what the images were reported to establish. On 7 September, il Giornale reported that the photographs in the municipal police file showed West seated with lowered trousers and Censori in front of him, but did not document a sexual act. The outlet also said there was no video in the file at that time. That is the newspaper’s description of the file, not an independent examination of the photographs or police records.
Why were people calling for an arrest?
“As Italians call for his arrest” appeared in PerthNow’s headline, but the calls it described were reactions on social media—not an official request for arrest or evidence of guilt. PerthNow said at publication that it was unknown whether the incident would have legal consequences. The phrase “apparent lewd act” likewise describes an allegation or interpretation, not a confirmed finding.
#1 Best Overall
Reports of an inquiry were separate from those online reactions. Sky TG24 framed possible reporting or penalties as conditional on suspicions being substantiated. On 7 September, il Giornale described an internal inquiry by Venice municipal police and said the boat driver had not yet been interviewed and might provide further details. The driver’s status and the inquiry details here are reported by that outlet, rather than presented as a verified police statement.
What did the boat company do?
Venezia Turismo Motoscafi, the private boat operator, said West and Censori would no longer be welcome aboard its boats. Rai News reported the company’s account that the driver had been watching traffic and had not seen the conduct shown in the photographs. Euronews also reported the company’s claim that a third passenger obstructed the captain’s view. This was a private company’s decision, not a government penalty or finding.

What is known about possible legal consequences?
Contemporary coverage described possible consequences conditionally and differently. Sky TG24 said the pair could be reported if suspicions were substantiated. Il Giornale characterized the matter under investigation as an administrative violation and reported a possible €3,300 sanction if an infraction were established. That figure was a conditional possibility reported by the outlet on 7 September 2023—not an assessed fine, confirmed penalty, or legal advice.
The sources reviewed do not establish the inquiry’s final disposition. They do not confirm an arrest, formal charge, fine, or finding of responsibility, but that absence is not proof that the inquiry was dropped or that no later action occurred.
