What marriage advice did Kamala Harris give Cole Emhoff?
In an interview with People, quoted by ELLE, Harris advised the couple to check in with one another at the end of each day and express their love, regardless of fatigue or distance:

Her advice centers on a small, repeatable act of connection. Harris offered it as personal advice to the couple, not as professional counseling or a guarantee about what makes a marriage succeed.

Did Harris officiate Cole Emhoff’s wedding?
Yes. Harris officiated Cole Emhoff and Greenley Littlejohn’s wedding in October 2023, according to ELLE’s August 2024 profile. The marriage advice was shared in coverage of that wedding.
How Cole and Harris became family
Cole is the son of Doug Emhoff and his former wife and co-parent, Kerstin Emhoff, and Harris’s stepson. Doug and Harris married in 2014; the White House biography identifies Cole and his sister, Ella, as Doug’s children with Kerstin.

Harris is known to Cole and Ella as “Momala,” a nickname ELLE reports. In a video introducing his father’s 2024 Democratic National Convention speech, Cole described his parents’ separation when he was in middle school and said they remained friends and continued spending time together. He recalled that Harris joined the family after she and Doug met, and said, “In 2014, Kamala became Momala.”
Doug described the family as a blended family and said the children calling Harris “Momala” reassured him. Those are the Emhoffs’ accounts of their own family, not a formula for how every blended family works.
