The reported $66 million global collection for Kalki 2898 AD refers to its opening period, not its final worldwide box-office total. Two box-office trackers now list lifetime worldwide grosses of about $125.9 million, while the film’s opening-day and opening-weekend figures describe separate milestones.
What does the $66 million figure mean?
The Indian Express reported that Kalki 2898 AD had garnered $66 million globally during its opening period. That is a time-bounded opening figure, not the film’s final worldwide collection. The report does not establish that $66 million is a lifetime total.

The film, identified on its official site as releasing on June 27, 2024, went on to accumulate higher totals in box-office trackers. The official film site provides the release context; The Indian Express report supplies the opening-period figure and other contemporary milestones.
What are the listed lifetime worldwide grosses?
Two trackers list worldwide totals near $126 million. Their figures differ slightly, so they should be attributed separately rather than averaged or presented as an audited official total.
#1 Best Overall
| Tracker | Worldwide gross | Domestic gross | International gross |
|---|---|---|---|
| Box Office Mojo (accessed 2026) | $125,857,438 | $18,289,575 | $107,567,863 |
| The Numbers (accessed 2026) | $125,926,900 | $18,289,575 | $107,637,325 |
The worldwide estimates are $69,462 apart. Each is a tracker’s database figure; the available reporting does not reconcile them through a shared accounting method. The Numbers also lists a $5,668,275 opening weekend in its domestic-market accounting, which is not the reported worldwide opening-weekend figure.
Which opening records were reported?
Opening day: ₹191.5 crore worldwide
Contemporary reporting put the film’s global opening-day collection at ₹191.5 crore. NDTV attributed that amount to producer Vyjayanthi Movies and described it as the third-highest opener in Indian cinema at the time. That is an opening-day comparison, not a lifetime global ranking. NDTV’s report gives the attributed figure and ranking.

Opening weekend: ₹555 crore worldwide
The Indian Express reported a worldwide opening-weekend collection of ₹555 crore. This is a weekend total, distinct from the ₹191.5 crore opening-day figure and from either tracker’s cumulative lifetime dollar estimate.
First half of 2024: the year-to-date lead
Ormax Media identified Kalki 2898 AD as the highest-grossing film in the first half of 2024 in its India box-office report, assigning the film’s box office to June. That claim is specifically about the half-year period and the report’s India box-office scope, not an all-time worldwide record. Ormax Media’s January–June 2024 report sets out that comparison.

How to read the box-office claims accurately
“Collection” and “record” claims are meaningful only when their scope is clear. For this film, the reported figures refer to different measures and comparison sets:
- $66 million: an opening-period global figure reported by The Indian Express, not a final lifetime gross.
- ₹191.5 crore: reported global opening-day collection, ranked third among Indian-film openers at the time by contemporary reporting.
- ₹555 crore: reported worldwide opening-weekend collection.
- About $125.9 million: lifetime worldwide estimates listed by two trackers, with a $69,462 difference between them.
- Highest-grossing in the first half of 2024: Ormax Media’s bounded India box-office claim for January–June.
These figures cannot be treated as interchangeable: they differ by period, currency, market scope, and source type. The opening numbers are contemporary media reports, including an amount attributed to the producer; the lifetime dollar figures are database estimates. The available sources support specific opening and 2024-period milestones, not an unqualified claim that the film broke a global all-time box-office record.
