Announced for June 21 at 6 p.m. Eastern, it was framed as a challenge to keep playing until he beat the expansion. Post-event coverage reported that he finished after 99 hours and 1,070 deaths.
What was Kai Cenat’s Shadow of the Erdtree marathon?
In June 2024, Kai Cenat’s creator channel published a trailer promoting a marathon stream focused on Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Its description declared, “I Will Not Get Off Stream Until I Beat The Game.” The trailer establishes the event’s premise, but does not itself give a start time. Kai Cenat Live’s official channel
Contemporaneous announcement coverage reported that the stream was scheduled to start June 21, 2024, at 6 p.m. Eastern, with Cenat intending to continue until he completed the expansion. Dexerto’s announcement coverage
How long did it take, and how many times did he die?
Destructoid reported that Cenat completed the expansion after 99 hours and 1,070 deaths. The report attributed roughly 500 of those deaths to attempts at the final boss. Those are figures reported by the outlet, not independently audited stream telemetry; the total also should not be read as 99 hours of uninterrupted active gameplay. Destructoid’s post-event report

What is Shadow of the Erdtree?
Shadow of the Erdtree is downloadable additional content for Elden Ring, released June 21, 2024. It is not a standalone game: players need the base game, and must make progress to a certain point in it before they can enter the expansion. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware list support for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware’s product and sales announcement
When checking a store listing, match the version to your platform and confirm whether it is for the expansion alone or includes the base game. A listing for the DLC alone does not satisfy the base-game requirement.

Why the event drew attention
The marathon turned a major game expansion into a public endurance challenge with a clear finish line: beat the game before getting off stream. Its reported duration and death count made the completion itself part of the story, especially the roughly 500 deaths attributed to the final boss. The event is best understood as a 2024 creator-stream milestone, rather than a release announcement or a current schedule.
