Kahbran White, the son of Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White, married Niya Mohammed at Cielo Farms in Malibu on November 19, 2022. Their wedding brought together a 25-year relationship, their three children, music chosen by Kahbran, and a Harari-Ethiopian ceremony held the following day.
How Kahbran White and Niya Mohammed came together
The couple told WedPort that they first met in fall 1995 at Beverly Hills High School and reconnected in 1999. They described their relationship as evolving over 25 years. In February 2020, Kahbran proposed at sunset near Bixby Bridge during a trip to Big Sur.
Maurice White’s official website identifies Kahbran as his son. The wedding account itself comes from WedPort’s feature, which reports details and quotes from the couple and their vendors.
Why they chose Cielo Farms in Malibu
The couple married at Cielo Farms on November 19, 2022. They described their intended look as a “Tuscan villa wedding,” with a neutral palette and natural materials such as wood and stone. Niya explained their choice of location: “The city of Malibu holds a very special place in our hearts, and as a couple, we love to explore vineyards all across California.”

For the ceremony, floral designer Felisa Funes of Of The Flowers created a greenery installation. Funes described it as “An overgrown and romantic installation created a naturalistic and old-world backdrop for the ceremony.” The couple also sought a classic, vintage-inspired feel and support for diverse and women-owned vendors; the feature names wedding planner Jessica Sloane.

Niya’s wedding and reception looks
Niya wore a custom white silk charmeuse gown with freshwater pearl jewelry. For her second reception look, she built the outfit around off-white Tecovas cowgirl boots she loved. The wedding feature does not name the boot model, so it does not establish which specific pair she wore or whether that style is currently available.
How music and family shaped the ceremony
The couple’s three children—Reece, Kaden, and Amel—participated as wedding attendants. The feature also names Kahbran’s uncle, Verdine White, and singer Shelly Clark among the 100 guests.

Kahbran curated the ceremony music. He entered with his mother to an instrumental version of “Devotion,” written and recorded by Earth, Wind & Fire. Niya entered to “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar featuring H.E.R. The couple’s recessional was “Beyond” by Leon Bridges.

The couple hosted an ankar mahtub ceremony at home the day after the wedding. In the WedPort feature, Niya described the ceremony as rooted in Harari-Ethiopian tradition and as a celebration intended to unite family and community. She said her traditional attire was custom made by Harari Bridal and Harari Boutique. Those cultural details reflect her account in the feature.
