What Ramsay Hunt syndrome is
Ramsay Hunt syndrome, also called herpes zoster oticus, occurs when the varicella-zoster virus affects certain facial nerves. It can cause a painful rash in or around one ear and weakness or paralysis on the same side of the face. Other possible symptoms include ear pain, tinnitus, hearing changes, and vertigo.
