On June 9, 2025, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman dismissed the countersuit. Reuters reported that Liman found Lively’s statements to a California state agency privileged and shielded from the defamation claim. Did the wider Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni dispute end then?
No. The October 2025 order ended the countersuit, not the entire dispute. Lively and Baldoni later settled their remaining claims in May 2026, shortly before a scheduled trial. The settlement terms were not disclosed. In their joint statement, the parties said Lively’s concerns “deserved to be heard,” as reported by the Associated Press. In August 2026, Liman awarded Lively $363,245 in attorneys’ fees and $44,206 in costs. She had sought nearly $8 million. These were fees and costs, not damages on the $400 million countersuit. Liman described the parties as having “waged fierce battle against each other in court,” according to the Associated Press. The lawyers’ descriptions of the result as a victory were their characterizations, not a court ruling on the dispute as a whole. The Associated Press reported the fee-and-cost award.
