Part Three ends the Tomorrowverse’s Crisis story, but its animated-world montage does not confirm that DC’s earlier cartoon universes are permanently destroyed.

Spoilers for the ending and continuity implications. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three closes both its three-film Crisis story and the connected Tomorrowverse. Its final montage of familiar animated worlds does not mean DC has permanently erased the original Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, or other beloved continuities: screenwriter Jim Krieg described the sequence as an affectionate tribute and said those universes remain available to return.

What happens at the end of Part Three?

The film brings its multiverse crisis to a final confrontation with the Anti-Monitor. DC’s official synopsis describes the villain attacking the Earths that remain in a pocket universe, vaporizing worlds and shattering time. Heroes from the past join the Justice League and its allies for a last stand. That is the confirmed broad shape of the climax; the synopsis does not establish a scene-by-scene account of every final event or sacrifice. DC’s official film page

The ending resolves the trilogy’s immediate threat while showing the cost and scale of the conflict across multiple realities. Its montage of animated worlds expands the crisis beyond the Tomorrowverse cast: recognizable versions of characters and settings from earlier DC cartoons appear to be caught in the destruction. The sequence is striking, but it should not be read as a definitive declaration that those original animated continuities have been wiped out.

Did Crisis Part Three destroy the DCAU and other animated universes?

No—not in the sense of confirming that the original continuities are permanently gone. In a DC article published August 7, 2024, screenwriter Jim Krieg characterized the montage as a loving “victory lap” through DC’s animated history. He also wrote: “To be clear, no universes were harmed in the making of these motion pictures. Like every supposedly dead superhero, any or all of them are available for a miraculous return.” Krieg’s statement, published by DC

That clarification speaks to the intent of the sequence and the possibility of future stories; it is not an announcement that a particular revival or crossover is planned. The montage includes familiar animated legacies such as Super Friends, the 2003 Teen Titans, Batman: The Animated Series, and Justice League Unlimited, but their appearance as endangered worlds does not establish that the original versions are permanently unavailable.

The doppelganger explanation

DC’s feature also offers an in-universe way to reconcile the montage with those continuities surviving: the worlds shown could be Tomorrowverse counterparts resembling the familiar animated universes, rather than the original worlds themselves. Treat this as an interpretation presented in the article, not a definitive continuity ruling. It helps explain how the film can depict apparent destruction without settling the fate of every earlier animated series.

How does the ending finish the Tomorrowverse?

Part Three is the final film in DC’s connected Tomorrowverse, which began with Superman: Man of Tomorrow in 2020. The Crisis trilogy gathers that continuity’s heroes into a threat large enough to put the whole setting at stake. DC’s editorial coverage places the finale in a wider run of animated films, including Justice League: Warworld, Green Lantern: Beware My Power, and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, as well as animated shorts associated with Constantine: The House of Mystery. As a continuity endpoint, the film’s role is clear: it brings the Tomorrowverse storyline to its final chapter. That does not require interpreting every image in the closing montage as a permanent census of which DC animated realities can ever return. Krieg’s comments leave room for familiar worlds to be revisited, while the doppelganger idea supplies a possible in-story distinction between the worlds depicted and their original counterparts.

Is the film a direct adaptation of the Crisis comic?

No. The animated trilogy draws on the classic Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, but DC describes the films as using its basic premise and framework to tell a story suited to animation. It is an adaptation, not a one-to-one recreation of every comic event. For readers comparing versions, the useful question is how the film reshapes the multiverse crisis for its own continuity—not whether each comic beat appears onscreen.
