Júnior says pop is his musical home because it gives him a place to bring together the styles he has explored—and to return to the stage as a vocalist. His first solo album, Solo Vol. 1, released on October 29, 2023, grew from that personal return; it was the opening part of a two-volume project, completed with Solo Vol. 2 in May 2024.
What Júnior means by calling pop home
For Júnior, “home” is not a claim that pop has one fixed sound. In a 2023 interview with POPline, he described pop as common ground for the different musical worlds he had explored. “Eu acho que o lugar comum pra tudo isso é o pop. Pelo menos em mim. Então, essa é a minha casa,” he said. In English: “I think the common ground for all of this is pop. At least for me. So this is my home.”
He also tied that homecoming to stepping forward as a vocalist and taking a central role in his own music, rather than to abandoning past experimentation. In the same interview, he said, “Mais do que voltando ao protagonismo da minha música, eu acho que voltar pra casa é voltar pra esse ambiente da música pop, pra esse lugar de vocalista ali.” That is, “More than returning to the leading role in my music, I think coming home means returning to this pop-music environment, to that place as a vocalist.”
How the Sandy & Junior reunion tour helped
The 2019 Nossa História reunion tour with his sister Sandy helped Júnior recognize how natural the pop-performance setting still felt. He recalled feeling at ease with the work around the shows: performing, choreography, rehearsals, and arrangements. The experience made the stage and the role of vocalist feel familiar again, giving his later solo direction a personal as well as musical starting point.

How Solo Vol. 1 took shape
Work on the first volume began in 2020, according to Correio Braziliense. Júnior approached it as a performer and a producer, experimenting with sounds, samples, and ideas while shaping the album’s identity. He worked with producers Felipe Vassão and Lucs Romero.
In his POPline interview, Júnior described an early moment that helped restart his creative momentum: his father sent him an early version of a song called “Sou.” After a difficult stretch during the pandemic, playing and creating again helped draw him back into music-making. He later began writing with collaborators and held a composition camp.

The album’s pop foundation made room for soul, electronic music, indie, and rock influences. Correio Braziliense reported that the first volume contained ten songs. Júnior described it to the newspaper as “É um disco bem pop e muito pessoal também”—“It’s a very pop record, and very personal too.”

Solo Vol. 1 was conceived as the first part of a larger project, not as the complete account of Júnior’s solo direction. The second volume, Solo Vol. 2, was released on May 23, 2024. In coverage of its release, Terra quoted Júnior saying the follow-up “amplifica mais o Volume 1, vai para novos ares e ajuda a trazer novas camadas ali”—it “amplifies Volume 1, goes in new directions, and helps bring out new layers.” He framed it as a way to reveal more of his artistic personality while extending the first volume’s ideas.
