What is the documentary about?
JUNE is a feature documentary about June Carter Cash, directed by Emmy Award winner Kristen Vaurio. Paramount+ describes Carter Cash as a five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, comedian, musician, actor, and author. The distributor frames the film as putting her life and contributions to country music in the foreground, including her place in the Carter and Cash family legacies; its announcement notes that she had sometimes stood in the shadow of her husband, Johnny Cash. Paramount+’s January 3 announcement says the film draws on rare and previously unseen archival material alongside interviews with family, friends, and admirers.
Who appears in the film?
Paramount+ names Dolly Parton, Reese Witherspoon, and Willie Nelson among the interview participants. The production company Sandbox also lists Kacey Musgraves and Emmylou Harris. Vaurio described the reason for centering Carter Cash in the film in a November 13, 2023 Paramount+ announcement: “She’s a woman whom many people are aware of, but few know much about her remarkable life and her deep contributions to country music.”
