Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio, whose legal name was Charles Jones, was shot and killed in Tampa early on June 23, 2024, while celebrating his 26th birthday. Four men were found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy charges in May 2026; a jury later recommended life without parole for them. The sources reviewed here do not establish the sentences ultimately imposed by the judge.
What happened to Julio Foolio?
Jones was in Tampa for his birthday when he was shot in a Holiday Inn parking lot, according to his attorney’s account reported by News4JAX. Attorney Lewis Fusco said the group had left an Airbnb because too many people were there, and Jones got a room at the hotel. Fusco described the shooting as an ambush. Tampa Police said three other people were injured; they were reported in stable condition at the time. News4JAX reported the initial account on June 23, 2024.

The early report said police believed the victim was Charles Jones, with positive identification pending confirmation by the medical examiner at that point. Fusco confirmed Jones’s death and asked for privacy for the family. Jones was known professionally as Julio Foolio and was 26.
What did police say about the motive?
In a July 29, 2024 announcement, Tampa Police described the killing as targeted and said investigators believed it was retaliation connected to an ongoing feud between rival Jacksonville gangs. Police said the five people they identified as suspects had traveled from Jacksonville. These were investigative claims, not facts established simply by the initial report; the motive and alleged planning should be attributed to police or prosecutors.

The police announcement said Alicia Andrews, Isaiah Chance, and Sean Gathright had been arrested, while Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy were then wanted. That was the status reported at the time, not the later outcome of the case. Tampa Police’s July 29, 2024 release contains the department’s account. Chief Lee Bercaw said: “The City of Tampa is not where you want to come to settle a dispute. You will be arrested, you will be charged, and you will be prosecuted.”

What the verdict and recommendation mean
The May 2026 verdicts establish that the four named men were found guilty of the reported charges. The later jury recommendation was for life without parole; it is not itself confirmation of the judge’s final sentence. The available reporting also leaves Andrews’s appeal and eventual sentencing unresolved. The procedural status should therefore be stated as of the dated reports, rather than treating the expected June hearing as a confirmed outcome.
