What was reported about the split?
On September 22, 2022, Us Weekly reported that Michaels and Saxe had separated after three years of dating, attributing confirmation to a source. The outlet also said representatives had not immediately responded to requests for comment. The breakup claim is therefore a report sourced to an unnamed person, not a direct confirmation established here from either artist.
What prompted the breakup coverage?
The report discussed lyrics and social posts that appeared to refer to heartbreak. Saxe had posted lyrics from his then-upcoming song “When You Think of Me,” while Michaels shared lyrics and a video that Us Weekly interpreted as breakup-related. Those clues formed part of the coverage, but they do not independently confirm the couple’s status.
In a September 23, 2022 article, Just Jared relayed a statement attributed to Saxe about “When You Think of Me”: “I don’t subscribe to the notion that for love to be valid, it needs to be endless.” That comment describes the song’s outlook on love; it should not be treated as a direct announcement of a breakup.

How did Michaels and Saxe meet?
Their connection began with songwriting. In an October 17, 2019 announcement, Sony Music Canada said they wrote “If the World Was Ending” on the day they met. Saxe said, “Julia and I wrote this song the day we met.” Michaels described it as being about “that special person in your life that for whatever reason you just can’t seem to make it work with.”
An April 2021 interview with The Independent described Saxe as Michaels’ boyfriend and said they went on their first date the day after they met. The pair also co-wrote Michaels’ “All Your Exes.”
