Hosted by Stephen Colbert, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin fundraiser also featured guest appearances, a Q&A and interviews with Wisconsin legislative candidates. WisDems later reported that the event raised $735,000 from more than 20,000 contributors.
What was the Veep cast reunion?
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin, also known as WisDems, organized the virtual live reunion as a fundraiser during the 2024 campaign. The party announced it on September 19, 2024, and held it on September 29. Stephen Colbert hosted the event, which combined a performance by the cast with discussion and campaign-related programming.
WisDems described the fundraiser as support for Democratic candidates up and down the Wisconsin ballot. Its October 1, 2024, announcement reported $735,000 raised from more than 20,000 contributors. Those are the organizer’s final reported figures; a Civic Media report published while the event was concluding had cited an on-air total of more than $725,000.
Which episode did they read?
The cast performed “Crate,” an episode from Veep season three. Its central turn is that Vice President Selina Meyer learns the president is stepping down, putting her on the path to the presidency. The premise made the episode especially topical during the 2024 presidential campaign, but it was a fictional storyline—not a prediction of real events.

Cast and host
Colbert hosted and narrated. The main cast participants reported by Civic Media included Louis-Dreyfus, Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Timothy Simons, Matt Walsh, Sufe Bradshaw, Gary Cole, Sam Richardson, Diedrich Bader, Nancy Lenehan, Clea DuVall and Sarah Sutherland.
Special guests and Wisconsin candidates
Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin voiced a character. Other special guests included Larry David, Kevin Smith, Kumail Nanjiani and Jason Alexander. Patton Oswalt joined the Q&A as a surprise participant, and Veep creator Armando Iannucci also appeared.
The roughly two-hour program included an audience Q&A and interviews with Wisconsin legislative candidates Sarah Keyeski, LuAnn Bird and Duane Shukoski. That mix gave the event a purpose beyond the episode performance: it also drew attention to state-level races alongside the fundraiser’s broader political aim.

In WisDems’ October 1, 2024, event-result announcement, party chair Ben Wikler praised the cast’s remote performance: “If there were Emmy awards to give out for Zoom performances, the Veep cast reunion benefitting WisDems would have swept the night.”
Rank #3
Wikler also said the money was intended to help Democratic candidates in the 2024 races, including Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Tammy Baldwin, and candidates for House and state legislative seats. That statement described the fundraiser’s campaign-era beneficiaries; it was not a current fundraising appeal.
