What did Julia Haart receive in the January 2025 divorce judgment?
On January 17, 2025, New York Supreme Court Justice Robert Reed entered an order striking Silvio Scaglia’s divorce complaint and granting Haart a default judgment on her answer and counterclaims. The order included financial and business-related relief in addition to the divorce itself.
The New York Appellate Division’s April 2026 opinion describes the order’s enumerated awards:
- Management fees: $7.4 million for 2019 through 2021.
- Business interests: a 50% interest in Freedom Holding, Inc. and its subsidiaries as of the start of the action, and in Elite World Group and SW Vestry, LLC.
- Painting proceeds: 50% of proceeds from the sale of a Kees Van Dongen painting owned by Freedom Holding.
- Company withdrawals: half of withdrawals the court deemed dissipation of marital property.
- Legal fees: 90% of Haart’s legal fees, with the amounts to be determined after an inquest.
- Implementation authority: powers of attorney to carry out the orders and intervene in a mortgage-foreclosure action concerning the marital residence.

Was the apartment really worth $65 million, and was there a $10 million cash award?
Us Weekly reported on January 21, 2025 that the order awarded Haart the couple’s 70 Vestry Street apartment, described as worth $65 million, and nearly $10 million in cash. These are contemporaneous press-reported figures, not amounts specified in the appellate opinion. The court record reviewed in the appeal confirms the January order and details some of its awards, but does not give the apartment valuation or cash figure.
What did the appeal change?
In April 2026, the First Department affirmed the decision to strike Scaglia’s pleadings and grant Haart a default judgment of divorce. It cited repeated violations of court orders, including failures or refusals to provide ordered discovery, pay court-ordered counsel fees and fees for a forensic expert and special masters, and attend conferences.

The appellate court did not simply affirm every financial calculation. It said the trial court had not provided the factual basis and reasons required for certain awards, including the management fees, Freedom Holding ownership and painting proceeds. It remanded those matters for written findings. The opinion said the record did not show the calculation or basis for the $7.4 million management-fee award and that the issue should be addressed at an inquest. Any management fees or painting proceeds Haart had already received were to be placed in escrow pending the trial court’s written determination.

A 2026 LegalClarity summary reports that the penthouse was listed for $65 million in November 2025 and sold for $57 million in February 2026. That secondary report does not establish how sale proceeds were distributed, so the reported sale price should not be treated as proof of what Haart ultimately received from the property.
