Julia Fox’s metallic chain-and-string bikini was attributed to designer Dilara Findikoglu in Teen Vogue’s August 9, 2023 coverage. The look is distinctive, but the article cautioned that it was not made for swimming: a report that its chain was water-resistant does not establish that the outfit is suitable for pools or the sea.
Who designed Julia Fox’s chain bikini?
Teen Vogue attributed Fox’s look to Dilara Findikoglu, the London-based designer known for fashion that draws on historical references and dramatic, body-conscious styling. The coverage described a metallic chain-and-string two-piece, with chains crossing down toward the bikini bottoms. Teen Vogue’s August 9, 2023 report is the source for the attribution and the outfit details.
What is the bikini made of?
The published description identifies metallic chains and strings, but does not establish the precise materials, the fabric composition of the bottoms, or whether the garment has lining. Teen Vogue reported that the chain was described as water-resistant on the brand website. That wording is not a claim that the entire bikini is waterproof or suitable for swimming.
Is it swimwear, or a fashion look?
Teen Vogue cautioned that Fox’s particular outfit was not made for swimming. That distinction matters: a chain can be described as water-resistant without the full garment being designed for pool or saltwater use, and the coverage does not provide care instructions or broader exposure guidance.

Findikoglu has also made swimwear as a collection category. British Vogue reported in 2022 that her second swimwear collection included chain-embellished, laced-up designs, which the designer imagined could be worn in the city as well as at the seaside. That collection context does not establish that Fox’s specific look is functional swimwear. British Vogue’s June 22, 2022 feature described the collection and its styling.
How does the look fit Findikoglu’s design approach?
Findikoglu’s garments often use historical references and theatrical styling. In the 2022 British Vogue feature, she described imagining wearers from the past: “Most of the people I imagine wearing my pieces are not alive right now, like 1900s exotic dancers.” The quote helps explain the look’s mix of ornament and provocation without making the bikini’s construction or intended use any less specific.

In a 2025 runway interview, Findikoglu described clothing as a way to express what words cannot: “It’s like, if I can’t explain something with words, I can through the garment.” Vogue’s account of the “Cage of Innocence” collection connected its themes to freedom, constraints placed on women, and the designer’s family and cultural background. These are the designer’s and Vogue’s interpretations of her work, not technical descriptions of the bikini. Vogue’s September 22, 2025 runway coverage includes the interview.

The sources establish the designer attribution and a historical collection context, but not current stock, a confirmed product name, or a current price for Fox’s specific bikini. British Vogue reported a £200–£500 range for Findikoglu’s swimwear collection in 2022; that is historical context, not a current offer or a verified price for this piece.
