The original headline does not identify which specific update it means, so the confirmed scheduling details are best treated as the key announcement—not as proof of the headline’s intended reference. As of October 8, 2026, that premiere date is in the past.

That is a Japanese television listing. Crunchyroll announced a separate service schedule; its premiere time and weekly release timing should not be mistaken for the Japanese network broadcast time.
Crunchyroll’s announced premiere and weekly schedule
Crunchyroll listed the season premiere on its service for January 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Its announced weekly Thursday episodes were scheduled to start January 15 at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time, across the regions specified in Crunchyroll’s release schedule. Those are the service’s announced times, not a claim that every territory followed the Japanese television schedule.

Which story arc does Season 3 adapt?
Crunchyroll describes Season 3 as adapting the first part of the Culling Game arc from Gege Akutami’s manga. Its arc announcement connects the season to the source manga, but does not establish a specific volume or chapter range. Readers interested in the original story can explore Akutami’s manga without assuming a particular book maps exactly to this season.

The available announcements confirm the season’s title, premiere date, first-broadcast format, and Crunchyroll schedule. They do not establish which one of those milestones the headline’s phrase “the update fans have waited for” originally referred to. Crunchyroll’s August 31, 2025 announcement confirmed that it would stream Season 3 in January 2026 and identified the Culling Game arc, but it does not resolve the headline’s intended reference.
