Sukuna adjusts and ultimately defeats Kusakabe. That combination makes the fight a demonstration of practical technique, timing, and adaptability. It is not evidence that Simple Domain nullifies every danger Sukuna poses or that Kusakabe can sustain an advantage indefinitely.
Can Kusakabe beat Sukuna?
No—not on the evidence of this encounter. Kusakabe makes tactical use of his abilities and lands attacks, but the summary says Sukuna adapts and defeats him. A single exchange shows what Kusakabe can do in that moment; it does not establish an overall power ranking or show that he is stronger than Sukuna.

Where does the fight fit in Jujutsu Kaisen?
VIZ identifies Gege Akutami as the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen and says the series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018. Its official series description centers on cursed spirits, Sukuna’s scattered body parts, and jujutsu sorcerers protecting people from supernatural threats. The Kusakabe encounter belongs to the larger conflict with Sukuna.
VIZ’s chapter index lists chapter 254 and nearby late-series chapters. Shueisha’s official volume list provides broader context for the Sukuna battle, but those publisher pages do not confirm which collected volume contains chapter 254. Check the contents for the specific edition before relying on a volume number.

- Separate tactics from overall strength: Kusakabe’s ability to create openings does not make the contest equal.
- Keep the technique claim specific: the chapter summary presents Simple Domain as central to his defense and counterattacks, not as a complete answer to Sukuna.
