Sukuna defeated Gojo not by overpowering Infinity with a faster slash, but by changing what his Dismantle targeted. In Chapter 236, Mahoraga’s adaptation gives Sukuna a model: instead of attacking Gojo through the space Infinity protects, Sukuna targets the space or world containing him.
Why Sukuna’s final slash could reach Gojo
Gojo’s Infinity prevents a conventional attack from completing its approach to him. Sukuna’s decisive move worked differently: its target was not simply Gojo as an opponent somewhere ahead of the slash. Sukuna extended Dismantle’s target to the space or world in which Gojo existed. That distinction let the attack bypass Infinity’s usual defense.

“World slash” is common descriptive shorthand for this attack, not a separate canonical technique name established by the chapter account. The important point is the change in target, not a claim that Sukuna’s slash was simply faster or had greater output.
How Mahoraga helped Sukuna find the counter
Mahoraga’s adaptation to Infinity supplied the model Sukuna needed. Sukuna observed that adaptation and applied the principle to his own Dismantle: he changed the technique’s target rather than merely repeating Mahoraga’s attack or inheriting Mahoraga’s technique.

#1 Best Overall
In practical terms, an ordinary slash would have to approach Gojo through the space Infinity defends. Sukuna’s decisive slash instead targeted the space containing Gojo, avoiding that conventional route. The difference is conceptual; the chapter account does not quantify either slash’s speed or output.
Ordinary slash versus Sukuna’s decisive slash
| Question | Ordinary slash | Decisive slash |
|---|---|---|
| What is targeted? | Gojo, as the target of an attack approaching through space. | The space or world containing Gojo. |
| How does Infinity matter? | It blocks or slows the conventional approach. | The changed target avoids that conventional route. |
| What role does Mahoraga play? | No adaptation model has yet been applied. | Mahoraga’s adaptation gives Sukuna a model for changing Dismantle’s target. |
Where the explanation appears
The fight concludes in Chapter 236, “Heading South,” which is listed in volume 26. The chapter reference dates its publication to September 25, 2023, and summarizes Sukuna’s use of Mahoraga’s adaptation to extend his technique’s target to the world itself. That reference is a secondary guide; consult the licensed manga for panel-level wording and interpretation. VIZ’s official Jujutsu Kaisen page is a starting point for licensed access; availability and editions may vary by territory.

What the chapter explanation does—and does not—establish
The central explanation is the changed target: Sukuna adapted Dismantle using Mahoraga’s response to Infinity. It does not establish that Infinity simply failed against a faster ordinary attack. A later comment attributed to Gege Akutami has been reported by Screen & Ink, but the report does not provide a primary transcript in the material available here. It should therefore be treated as secondary reporting, not as a verified direct statement or as the basis for explaining the mechanics.
