Full manga spoilers through chapter 271 and Volume 30. The manga is complete, but there is no reliable single count of every death: lists differ on whether they include unnamed victims, group casualties, cursed spirits, incarnated sorcerers and temporary deaths. The roster below covers major named characters whose deaths are confirmed, with collective casualties and complicated returns identified separately.

Who dies in Jujutsu Kaisen?

The endpoint is chapter 271, listed in VIZ’s official chapter catalog; Shueisha identifies Volume 30 as the final volume. The names below are grouped by story phase. They include named cursed spirits as well as human characters, and they are not a census of every victim in the series.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Character Death and context
Rika Orimoto Dies before the main story. Her death is central to the prequel; distinguish the girl from the cursed spirit associated with her afterward.
Suguru Geto Dies in the prequel. Kenjaku later uses Geto’s body, but Geto and Kenjaku are distinct identities.

Fearsome Womb and early story

Character Death and context
Wasuke Itadori Yuji’s grandfather; his death occurs at the beginning of the story.
Junpei Yoshino Dies during the early story. His death is final.

Death Painting arc

Character Death and context
Eso A Death Painting Womb; dies during the arc.
Kechizu A Death Painting Womb; dies during the arc.

Gojo’s Past

Character Death and context
Riko Amanai Dies during the events of Gojo’s Past.
Toji Fushiguro Dies during Gojo’s Past. His later reanimation in Shibuya is a separate event, not a permanent return to life.

Shibuya Incident

Character Death and context
Kokichi Muta (Mechamaru) Dies during the Shibuya storyline.
Hanami A cursed spirit; dies during the incident.
Naobito Zenin Dies during the incident.
Dagon A cursed spirit; dies during the incident.
Haruta Shigemo Dies during the incident.
Nanako Hasaba Dies during the incident.
Mimiko Hasaba Dies during the incident.
Jogo A cursed spirit; dies during the incident.
Kento Nanami Dies during the incident.
Mahito A cursed spirit, absorbed after his defeat. Ciatr’s chapter-aware account describes his final status by chapter 271.

Perfect Preparation and the Zenin conflict

Character or group Death and context
Masamichi Yaga Dies during the events around the Zenin conflict.
Mai Zenin Dies during the Zenin conflict.
Ogi Zenin Dies during the Zenin conflict.
Jinichi Zenin Dies during the Zenin conflict.
Naoya Zenin Dies as a human, later returns as a cursed spirit, and is defeated again. He is one character with two death-related events, not two separate people.
Other Zenin clan members Maki kills many members of the clan. The cited roster identifies this as a collective casualty but supplies no verified individual total.

Culling Game

Character or identity Death and context
Dhruv Lakdawalla A named player who dies during the Culling Game.
Kurourushi A cursed spirit who dies during the Culling Game.
Yuki Tsukumo Dies during the Culling Game.
Tengen Listed among the deaths associated with this phase.
Ryu Ishigori A named player who dies during the Culling Game.
Tsumiki Fushiguro / Yorozu Tsumiki is Yorozu’s host; Yorozu is the incarnated sorcerer. This is a host-and-incarnate relationship, not two unrelated deaths in one event.
Reggie Star A named player who dies during the Culling Game.

Shinjuku Showdown and the final battle

Character Death and context
Satoru Gojo Dies in the battle against Sukuna. VIZ’s official Volume 26 description identifies Gojo’s defeat in that fight; chapter-aware coverage supplies the death detail.
Hajime Kashimo Dies during the final battle.
Choso Dies during the final battle.
Kenjaku Yuta decapitates him after Takaba’s confrontation. Kenjaku’s statement that his will will be carried on signals continuation of his plan, not proof that he personally survives.
Ryomen Sukuna Dies at the end of the final battle.
Uraume Dies during the final battle’s aftermath.

Deaths that are not final, or need a label

  • Yuji Itadori: Sukuna removes his heart early in the story, and Yuji temporarily dies before being revived. Do not count this as a final death.
  • Nobara Kugisaki: Her Shibuya injury initially leaves her fate uncertain, but she returns in the final battle. She is not a confirmed final death.
  • Toji Fushiguro: His Shibuya appearance follows his death in Gojo’s Past; the séance reanimation does not undo that original death.
  • Naoya Zenin: His cursed-spirit return is a second defeat after his human death, not a second character to add to a head count.
  • Geto and Kenjaku: Geto dies in the prequel; Kenjaku later occupies his body. Treating them as one person obscures two separate identities.
  • Tsumiki and Yorozu: The host and incarnated sorcerer are connected but distinct. The roster labels the relationship rather than counting them as unrelated victims.
  • Named cursed spirits: Hanami, Dagon, Jogo, Mahito and Kurourushi are nonhuman characters. They are included here because the question covers named manga characters, not only human deaths.

Why there is no definitive total

A count changes depending on whether it includes unnamed civilians and other victims, collective losses such as the Zenin clan, cursed spirits, hosts of incarnated sorcerers, or a character who briefly dies and returns. The Escapist’s September 12, 2024 roster predates the ending and stops at chapter 269; Ciatr’s updated August 20, 2026 account includes chapter-specific status notes through the finale. Neither supplies a publisher-issued universal statistic. For context on the ending, VIZ lists chapter 271 and Shueisha marks Volume 30 as final.
