Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271 is already published—and it is the final chapter of the original manga. Titled “From Now On,” the finale trades another massive battle for a quieter reunion of Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara, a final memory of Gojo, and a symbolic return to Sukuna’s finger. This retrospective begins with the questions raised during the original preview period, then explains what the ending actually confirms. Full spoilers follow.
Spoiler warning: This article contains full spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen through Chapter 271, including the ending of the original manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271: preview turned ending
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271 is no longer an upcoming chapter. Titled “From Now On,” it was published in Japan on September 30, 2024, as the 271st and final chapter of Gege Akutami’s original manga. U.S. digital readers received it on September 29 because of the Japan–United States time difference.
The chapter does not extend the Shinjuku Showdown with one last battle. Instead, it acts as a quiet epilogue: Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki work together again, Yuji remembers his final conversation with Satoru Gojo, and the series returns to the kind of smaller-scale curse investigation with which it began. Its argument is simple but significant: the future of jujutsu belongs to the students, not to the teacher who shaped them.

When was Chapter 271 released?
The official announcement on August 19, 2024 confirmed that the manga would end with Chapter 271 in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 44, following a five-chapter countdown. The Japanese release date was September 30, 2024. In the United States, the official digital release arrived on Sunday, September 29.
Readers can find the chapter in the official VIZ Shonen Jump chapter archive and through Manga Plus, Shueisha’s official international manga platform. Chapter 271 follows Chapter 270 in the digital sequence and is also collected in the final English-language volume.
What fans expected before the finale
The pre-release question was not simply whether Sukuna would be defeated. By the time the five-chapter countdown began, the manga had already moved into the consequences of the Shinjuku battle. The more relevant question was whether the finale would resolve the state of jujutsu society or provide a brief emotional epilogue.
Several threads were still in readers’ minds:
- Could Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara reunite as the series’ original trio?
- What would happen to jujutsu society after the old power structures were damaged?
- Would the controversy surrounding New Shadow Style receive a full explanation?
- What did the weakening condition of Tengen’s barriers mean for the future?
- Would Gojo return in some form?
The return of the original trio was the strongest reasonable expectation. Gojo’s possible resurrection, a development involving Geto, and a final Sukuna twist were popular fan theories, but none was confirmed by the official chapter information. The published chapter does not resurrect Gojo, and it does not definitively announce a continuation of the original manga.

Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara are working together again
Chapter 271 opens with Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara undertaking a relatively contained mission. A curse user is harassing a civilian couple, and the three sorcerers investigate the case together.
Compared with the battles against Kenjaku and Sukuna, the assignment is deliberately ordinary. That contrast is the point. The characters are no longer inexperienced students being thrown into a disaster they barely understand. They are functioning as a capable team, handling the continuing problems of a world where curses still exist.
The mission also restores the series’ original rhythm. Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara’s banter recalls the beginning of the manga, but their circumstances have changed. They have survived a catastrophe, lost mentors and allies, and faced the strongest threats in the setting. Their return to fieldwork is therefore not a reset. It is evidence that they have become the next generation of sorcerers.

Yuji remembers Gojo’s final conversation
The chapter’s most important emotional scene is Yuji’s memory of a conversation with Gojo before Gojo fought Sukuna. Gojo explains that he wants his students to grow beyond him rather than remain defined by his strength or reputation.
That idea completes one of Gojo’s central functions in the story. He was the strongest modern sorcerer, but his real ambition was to create a generation capable of changing the system that produced him. Chapter 271 shows that ambition succeeding in an imperfect but meaningful way. Gojo is gone, yet his students are alive, active, and capable of moving forward without waiting for him to solve the world’s problems.
Yuji’s response does not erase Gojo’s importance. Instead, it accepts that honoring Gojo means allowing the future to belong to the people he taught. The scene is also why the ending should not be read as a setup for Gojo’s return: the chapter treats his absence as part of the transition to the next era.
The final finger returns the story to its beginning
The ending revisits Sukuna’s last finger. By this point, the object is no longer presented as a practical route to Sukuna’s reincarnation. It remains dangerous-looking and symbolically loaded, but the specific Sukuna threat has ended.
The finger is placed in a small roadside shrine or enclosed structure, echoing the cursed-object imagery from the opening of the manga. The visual creates a circular connection to Chapter 1, when Yuji’s life changed after he became involved with Sukuna’s finger.
That image does not clearly announce that Sukuna will return. A better reading is that curses and supernatural danger remain part of the world, while the particular crisis surrounding Sukuna is over. The protagonists will continue dealing with new cases “from now on.”
What happens to Sukuna and Mahito?
Chapter 271 includes a symbolic afterlife or soul-space sequence involving Sukuna and Mahito. Sukuna reflects on the path he chose and considers whether he could have lived differently if given another opportunity. He chooses the “north” path, which is associated with change or reincarnation, while Mahito remains unable to move beyond the nature that defined him.

This scene is thematic rather than a conventional sequel hook. It does not redeem Sukuna or undo the atrocities he committed. Instead, it gives him a final moment of self-recognition. His philosophy was based on isolation, domination, and the belief that he needed nobody. Yuji’s opposing strength came from his relationships and his willingness to carry other people’s pain.
Sukuna’s choice suggests that defeat has forced him to confront the limits of his worldview. Mahito’s contrasting position shows a figure still trapped by the identity he embraced. The sequence therefore provides a final comparison between Sukuna and Yuji: one pursued absolute self-sufficiency, while the other found a way forward through human connection.

What does “From Now On” mean?
The title describes the chapter’s entire mood. The story is not promising that the world has become safe or that every institutional problem has been solved. It is showing what the characters do after the central conflict has ended.
Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara continue working as sorcerers. Curses still exist. The final finger still resembles the kind of ominous object that could begin another horror story. But the characters are no longer waiting for Gojo, Sukuna, or another legendary figure to define their lives.
That is why the final mission matters more symbolically than mechanically. It places the original trio back in the field and confirms that the series’ future can continue without requiring another world-ending battle. The ending is a handoff from the old generation to the people who must now make their own choices.
What Chapter 271 resolves
- Sukuna is defeated. The immediate threat that drove the final conflict is over.
- Megumi is free. His possession by Sukuna has ended.
- Nobara is alive and active. She returns to the story as a functioning member of the trio.
- Yuji continues as a sorcerer. He is not left without a purpose after Sukuna’s defeat.
- The original trio reunites professionally. Their final mission shows them operating together as experienced practitioners.
- Gojo’s legacy continues through his students. He does not return to the living cast, but his stated hope for his students is fulfilled in part.
What the ending leaves unresolved
Chapter 271 is an epilogue and thematic coda, not a complete reconstruction of the setting’s political and supernatural institutions. It leaves several larger questions abbreviated or open:

- The complete future of Tengen’s barriers is not fully mapped out.
- Not every institutional conflict raised during the final arc receives a detailed outcome.
- The final finger remains visually suggestive, even though the chapter’s context does not present it as an active reincarnation route for Sukuna.
Whether those omissions are weaknesses or deliberate restraint depends on what a reader wanted from the finale. Readers seeking a detailed account of every faction and character may find the ending abbreviated. Readers more interested in Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, Gojo’s legacy, and the series’ circular imagery may see the lack of a full political epilogue as purposeful.

Where to read or buy the finale
The official digital chapter is available through VIZ’s Shonen Jump chapter page and Manga Plus. Chapter 271 is not a standalone print issue; the physical edition containing it is Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 30, the final collected volume of the original manga. VIZ lists paperback and digital editions, with the English release dated May 12, 2026.
Shueisha’s Japanese product listing identifies Volume 30 as a 192-page final volume released on December 25, 2024, and describes it as containing substantial newly drawn material. For readers who want the chapter in context rather than as a digital single, Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 30 is the most direct physical purchase.
VIZ also lists a Jujutsu Kaisen Complete Box Set containing Volume 0, all 30 main-series volumes, and a double-sided poster. Its listed release date is October 27, 2026, so it should be treated as an announced or scheduled release—not as a set already available at the August 11, 2026 research date.

Chapter 271 ends Jujutsu Kaisen by choosing continuation over spectacle. It brings Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara back to a familiar kind of mission, gives Yuji a final emotional link to Gojo, and uses Sukuna’s finger to connect the conclusion to the opening chapter.
The manga does not claim that curses have disappeared or that every problem in jujutsu society has been repaired. It closes the Sukuna story and leaves the surviving characters to build whatever comes next. In that sense, “From Now On” is less a promise of another chapter than a statement about the lives of the characters after the final page.
