Spoiler warning: This list includes manga-ending events not yet covered by the anime. “Could defeat” does not mean all ten are proven solo winners: some have a direct high-end matchup, some need a specific opening or an ally, and some are hypothetical. The strongest canon cases are Gojo’s direct fight with Sukuna and the group strategy that lets Yuji target the boundary between Sukuna’s and Megumi Fushiguro’s souls.

How to read this list

The official volume summaries describe a battle that shifts from Gojo’s one-on-one clash to a succession of fighters and tactical attempts. They do not establish a definitive ranking or odds for hypothetical matchups. The entries below are therefore grouped by the kind of win condition the story supports: direct individual threat, a specific tactical opening, team contribution, or speculation.

“Anime characters” here means characters from the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise, including manga-only evidence from the ending. The official summaries are concise, so they establish participation and broad tactics rather than every detail of a fight.

Strongest individual or matchup-specific cases

1. Satoru Gojo — the clearest individual challenger

Case: Direct, high-end matchup; not a canon-confirmed victor. Shueisha’s Volume 26 summary presents Gojo versus Sukuna as a battle of extraordinary scale, and later volume summaries report Gojo’s defeat. That makes Gojo the most clearly established individual candidate, but the outcome matters: he did not finish Sukuna in their fight.

What could make the difference: Their fight proves Gojo can contest Sukuna directly. It does not prove that Gojo wins under every starting condition, or that his eventual defeat can be disregarded. This is the strongest case for a solo challenger, not proof of a solo victory.

2. Yuji Itadori — a win condition tied to Sukuna’s host

Case: Canon-supported, but dependent on the situation. The Volume 30 summary describes Yuji attacking the boundary between Sukuna’s soul and Fushiguro’s in an effort to pull Sukuna away from him. Volume 29 describes Yuji awakening while the battle continues.

What could make the difference: Yuji’s route is not simply to overpower Sukuna. It exploits the fact that Sukuna and Fushiguro share a body, and it is tied to the effort to separate them. That makes Yuji a particularly relevant answer to “who can defeat Sukuna?” when the question means ending Sukuna’s hold on his host, rather than winning a clean duel.

Direct threats whose summaries do not prove a solo win

3. Yuta Okkotsu — a serious participant, not a guaranteed finisher

Case: Direct confrontation within the larger battle. Shueisha’s Volume 28 summary says Yuta reaches the fight and expands his domain. This establishes him as a meaningful threat and participant, but the synopsis does not say he could defeat Sukuna alone.

What could make the difference: His strongest source-backed case is as part of the coordinated effort against Sukuna. The available summary does not establish a separate, reliable solo win condition, so it would overstate the evidence to call him a proven individual victor.

4. Hiromi Higuruma — a tactical opening, not proof of a finishing blow

Case: Conditional tactical opportunity. Volume 28 says the attempt to confiscate Sukuna’s technique fails, after which Higuruma faces him with a sword.

What could make the difference: The sequence shows a plan intended to create an opening, followed by a direct attack. It does not establish that Higuruma can defeat Sukuna independently. His case depends on a tactical opportunity within the wider fight, not an assured one-on-one result.

Team-dependent contributors in the final battle

5. Maki Zenin — a combatant in the wider effort

Case: Team contribution. Shueisha’s volume descriptions place Maki among the fighters involved in the wider struggle against Sukuna. That supports including her as part of the group effort, not claiming that the summaries establish a solo victory.

What could make the difference: Her case is strongest when Sukuna is already engaged by other fighters and the group can create openings. The cited summaries do not set out a standalone route by which she defeats a fresh Sukuna on her own.

6. Kinji Hakari — part of the broader battle, without a confirmed solo result

Case: Conditional team role. Shueisha’s descriptions place Hakari in the broader conflict, but do not identify him as a solo victor or spell out a decisive finishing opportunity.

What could make the difference: The defensible claim is that he can contribute to a coordinated attempt, especially if Sukuna is occupied or worn down. The summaries do not support a stronger claim about a one-on-one outcome.

7. Miguel — support in the effort to close on Sukuna

Case: Team-dependent. Shueisha’s volume descriptions say Miguel and Larue help Yuji’s group close on Sukuna. That is evidence of a role in the larger strategy, not evidence of a solo win.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What could make the difference: His contribution matters as part of a group trying to reach and pressure Sukuna. The summary does not establish an independent finishing move or a solo matchup advantage.

8. Larue — helping the group create access

Case: Team-dependent. The official volume description places Larue alongside Miguel as they help Yuji’s group close in on Sukuna.

What could make the difference: That support can matter in a battle where several fighters work together, but the cited summary does not present Larue as a confirmed solo challenger. His inclusion is about helping the team’s approach, not a proven individual victory.

Hypothetical candidates, not established winners

9. Toji Fushiguro — a speculative matchup

Case: Hypothetical only. The official anime character announcement describes Toji as a “sorcerer killer,” but that label does not establish that he can defeat Sukuna.

What could make the difference: A discussion of Toji as a possible counter is speculation unless it identifies a supported, specific route to victory under defined conditions. The official description alone is not enough to claim he can beat Sukuna, so he belongs at the speculative end of this list, not among the demonstrated contenders.

10. Suguru Geto — a hypothetical, not a canon-backed Sukuna answer

Case: Hypothetical only. The official anime character announcement identifies young Geto as a user of Cursed Spirit Manipulation. It does not establish that this ability lets him defeat Sukuna.

What could make the difference: The available official description supplies a broad technique label, not a matchup result or a specific win condition against Sukuna. Including Geto is therefore a speculative extension of the premise, not a claim supported by a demonstrated fight.

What the evidence says about “who can defeat Sukuna?”

The clearest individual challenger is Gojo, whose direct fight demonstrates that he can contest Sukuna but ends in Gojo’s defeat. The clearest specific route to changing the outcome is Yuji’s attempt to attack the boundary between Sukuna and Fushiguro. Yuta and Higuruma are directly involved in the later fight, while Maki, Hakari, Miguel, and Larue belong in a team-based discussion. Toji and Geto are hypothetical inclusions; the official character descriptions do not prove they can win.

That distinction is central to the ending: the official summaries describe multiple fighters, tactical attempts, and Yuji’s soul-boundary strategy—not one challenger simply overpowering Sukuna. For the manga’s complete final conflict, VIZ identifies Jujutsu Kaisen, Vol. 30 as the final volume. VIZ also lists The Official Character Guide as a character reference.
