Manga spoilers ahead: This ranking covers antagonists across the completed main Jujutsu Kaisen manga, which concluded in September 2024. Anime-only viewers may encounter major spoilers because the adaptation follows a separate release timeline. The ranking is editorial, not official: it weighs narrative impact, threat, characterization, thematic role, and each antagonist’s effect on Yuji and the wider cast—not combat power alone.

How this ranking defines “best”

The strongest fighter is not automatically the most effective villain. The entries below are ranked by how well they shape the story: the scale of danger they create, how much they redirect the plot, what they reveal about the world or Yuji, and how memorable their conflicts are. The official franchise description frames that world around curses born from negative human emotions and the sorcerers who exorcise them (official series story).

The list includes persistent enemies, major opposing forces, and one character whose role changes. Suguru Geto and Kenjaku are treated as distinct antagonists: Geto is a person with his own beliefs, while Kenjaku later uses Geto’s body. Toji is included as a major opponent rather than a conventional long-running villain. Choso is ranked for his antagonist phase, not for the ally he later becomes.

The 10 best Jujutsu Kaisen villains

1. Ryomen Sukuna

Sukuna is the series’ defining threat: the King of Curses, whose danger persists beyond death and who reincarnates in Yuji’s body, according to the official character roster (official character profiles). That premise makes him more than a distant final obstacle. Yuji’s connection to Sukuna turns the central conflict inward, making the cost of carrying immense power part of the story’s basic tension.

His place at the top rests on that narrative reach as much as his overwhelming strength. Sukuna’s presence affects Yuji’s choices and the wider sorcerer world, while his cruelty and self-interest offer a stark contrast to the bonds and responsibilities the protagonists try to protect.

2. Kenjaku

Kenjaku earns second place through long-range influence. The official story identifies him as the force behind the Culling Game (official series story), tying him to a plot that reshapes the conditions under which sorcerers and curses operate. His threat is therefore not limited to a single fight: he turns the larger world into part of the conflict.

Keep Kenjaku distinct from Geto when discussing the story. Kenjaku’s use of Geto’s body does not make them the same character or give them the same motives. That distinction matters both for understanding the plot and for judging Geto’s own role in the ranking.

3. Mahito

Mahito makes the series’ ideas about curses and human suffering immediate. The official profile describes him as a curse originating from humans who can alter people by touching their souls, and who experiments on human bodies (official character profiles). His ability is frightening not only because it is dangerous, but because it makes the boundary between a person’s identity and physical form feel vulnerable.

His conflict with Yuji works on both a personal and thematic level: Mahito treats people as material to change, while Yuji is forced to reckon with what it means to protect them. That combination of intimate cruelty, clear thematic opposition, and serious threat makes Mahito one of the story’s most effective antagonists.

4. Suguru Geto

Geto’s villainy grows from an ideology rather than a simple appetite for destruction. His official profile describes him as a curse user who seeks a paradise for sorcerers and has killed more than one hundred ordinary people (official character profiles). The gap between that promised ideal and the violence used to pursue it makes him a consequential antagonist.

He also forces the story to examine the divide between sorcerers and non-sorcerers as a source of conflict, not just a background fact. Geto’s convictions make him compelling, but they do not excuse the harm he causes. His place here is for his own character and choices, not for Kenjaku’s later actions in his body.

5. Toji Fushiguro

Toji is a major opposing force, even if he is not a conventional villain who drives the story over a long stretch. His significance comes from the way he challenges assumptions about power and status in the sorcerer world. Rather than ranking him solely by how dangerous he is in a confrontation, this list gives weight to the disruption his role creates around the people and institutions he encounters.

He belongs among the strongest antagonists because his impact reaches beyond the immediate clash. His inclusion is a judgment about narrative effectiveness, not a claim that he has the same scope or motive as Sukuna, Kenjaku, or Geto.

6. Jogo

Jogo gives the curse side of the conflict a visible sense of purpose. The official profile describes him as a curse born from the earth who seeks to reverse the balance of power between curses and humans (official character profiles). That goal makes him more than a dangerous opponent: he represents a challenge to the order sorcerers assume they can maintain.

He ranks below the top five because his influence on the story is narrower, but his role helps make the curse-versus-human struggle feel like a conflict between forces with aims of their own.

7. Naoya Zenin

Naoya’s place in the ranking comes from the way he embodies hostility within the sorcerer world itself. Not every antagonist has to threaten the whole world to matter; a villain can expose the values and hierarchies that make an institution harmful to the people inside it. Naoya’s narrative function is more focused than the top-ranked threats, but it adds another dimension to the story’s conflicts.

8. Uraume

Uraume ranks as a supporting antagonist whose significance is closely tied to Sukuna. That connection makes Uraume part of the danger surrounding the King of Curses, while keeping their role distinct from the central villains whose motives and choices drive broader stretches of the story. The ranking reflects that supporting function rather than treating proximity to Sukuna as a measure of villain quality by itself.

9. Haruta Shigemo

Haruta is a smaller-scale antagonist, but a ranking of villains need not include only masterminds or world-level threats. His place here recognizes the immediate disruption and danger he brings within the story, while placing him below characters with greater thematic depth or lasting influence on the plot.

10. Choso, during his antagonist phase

Choso makes the list specifically for the period when he opposes the protagonists. His later change of sides is an important part of his character, but it does not erase the role he first plays as an antagonist. Ranking that phase separately avoids treating his entire arc as if it belonged to one fixed label.

His inclusion also illustrates the boundary of this list: it covers antagonists and opposing forces, not only characters who remain villains from beginning to end.

Why there is no official villain leaderboard

The official franchise pages establish character and story details, not a ranked order of the villains. The order above is an editorial assessment based on a consistent set of criteria, and another defensible list could move the lower-ranked entries or choose a narrower scope. The official series introduction reports 1.5 billion cumulative copies in circulation worldwide, including digital editions; that is the figure stated on the franchise page, not an independently audited current total (official series story).
