Jota Quest began making De Volta ao Novo shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, then paused the project as restrictions reshaped the band’s schedule. In a September 2024 interview, vocalist Rogério Flausino discussed the album’s extended production, its idea of artistic reconnection, and the collaborators who helped shape it.
How the pandemic changed the album’s production
Flausino said the process was unlike the band’s previous albums. Jota Quest started work shortly before the pandemic and began releasing singles while expecting the disruption to be temporary. Instead, finishing the project had to wait. When restrictions eased, the band returned to touring before picking the album back up.

In a 2025 interview, Flausino dated the start to late 2019 or early 2020 and estimated that the process took nearly four years. That account helps explain why De Volta ao Novo arrived in volumes rather than as a single, uninterrupted recording cycle. Tribuna de Minas interview, July 5, 2025
What “De Volta ao Novo” means
Flausino said the title and concept grew from the title track. He described the project as a choice to reconnect artistically while looking for new repertoire and a new direction:

“Dos versos da faixa-título ‘De Volta Ao Novo’ pinçamos o nome e o conceito desse novo álbum que remetem, entre outras reflexões, à força de nossa decisão por mais uma reconexão artística em busca de um novo repertório e caminho.”
The wording presents the album as both a continuation and a search: Jota Quest returning to collective work while trying to find what comes next. It is Flausino’s account of the concept, not a claim that the band abandoned its established identity.

How the two-volume release fits together
De Volta ao Novo, Volume 2 (Deluxe) was reported released on August 29, 2024, completing a release cycle that began with Volume 1 in 2023. Sony Music Portugal describes the full Deluxe project as a 23-track, ninth studio album, following Pancadélico (2015). Those details describe the release and catalogue, not sales, audience size, or chart performance.
TMDQA!’s August 2024 coverage discusses the completion of the cycle; Sony Music Portugal’s Jota Quest page gives the Deluxe project’s track count and album position.

Collaborators and the album’s musical range
Coverage names FBC, Herbert Vianna, Dilsinho, Rael, Nando Reis, Sérgio Britto, Lucas Silveira, and Wilson Sideral among the collaborators. The credits span different tracks and contributions; they should not be read as a single ensemble appearing together throughout the album.
In the ROCKline interview, Flausino mentions two songs with Wilson Sideral and a song by Nando Reis and Sérgio Britto. TMDQA! discusses contributions from Lucas Silveira and FBC. The available accounts establish those associations without assigning every named artist to a particular track.

TMDQA! describes the record as moving among pop, groove, funk, danceable songs, and romantic material, with themes including love, friendship, unity, and respect for differences. Flausino has also said he prefers a light, conversational tone and does not want to write about bad things. These are descriptions of the band’s approach and the coverage’s reading of the album, rather than measurements of its sound.
