PerthNow reported on 18 June 2024 that Australian NBA player Josh Giddey had been seen partying in Melbourne with model Maki Lesko, and that the two shared a ride. The account describes a reported outing; it does not establish that they were dating. The report followed the closure of police and NBA investigations into an earlier online allegation, but those outcomes do not settle every factual question about that allegation.
What PerthNow reported about the Melbourne outing
In an article published on 18 June 2024, PerthNow journalist Zach Margolius reported that Giddey had been seen in Melbourne after the end of his NBA season. The article identified the woman as model Maki Lesko, described the venue as believed to be a nightclub, and said they were seen sharing a ride. These details are PerthNow’s reported observations, not independently confirmed facts in the other accounts cited here. PerthNow’s report described Lesko as saying she was Russian, Polish and Australian and as being signed to modelling agencies in Australia and the United States.
The article also quoted Giddey reflecting on the end of Oklahoma City’s playoff run: “This was probably the biggest challenge I’ve ever gone through for a number of reasons,” and “There’s so much more to a person than basketball.” PerthNow attributed those remarks to him; the sources reviewed here do not establish a direct recording or transcript, nor do they show that he was addressing the earlier allegation specifically.
What was reported about the earlier allegation
The earlier matter began with an anonymous social-media post in November 2023 alleging that a girl seen with Giddey was underage. ABC News reported that Newport Beach Police opened an investigation and described the accusation as unsubstantiated at that point. An online allegation is not itself an established finding of misconduct. ABC News’ November 2023 report outlined the investigation’s opening.

What police and the NBA said about their investigations
Newport Beach Police
On 18 January 2024, ABC News reported that Newport Beach Police had closed their investigation and that Giddey would not face charges. ABC quoted police crime prevention specialist Heather Rangel: “Our detectives have reviewed all of the available information regarding allegations circulating on social media and were unable to corroborate any criminal activity related to Mr Giddey.” ABC News’ report on the police decision attributes that wording to Rangel.
NBA
On 23 May 2024, ESPN reported, citing sources, that the NBA had closed its investigation after police determined they would not pursue charges. PerthNow’s June article also described the league inquiry as closed. ESPN’s account is reporting attributed to unnamed sources, rather than a quoted police statement. ESPN’s report gives that account.
