In a March 20, 2026 call from Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Joseph Duggar reportedly told his wife, Kendra, that he thought he had about $60 to use for calls. Kendra said she had been taken to “a good place to stay that’s very private.” The call coverage did not identify where she was staying or who arranged it.
What Joseph and Kendra reportedly said on the call
Us Weekly reported on March 31 that it had reviewed a collect call Joseph placed on March 20 from Washington County Detention Center. The outlet said Entertainment Weekly had obtained the audio. According to Us Weekly’s account, Kendra said she had missed an earlier call. Joseph replied that he had sent an email and that calls cost money.
Us Weekly attributed these words to Joseph: “I think I have 60 bucks, so I can at least use that to call,” followed by, “I’m not gonna use it for anything else.” In the same reported conversation, Kendra asked whether he knew where she was, then said, “they brought me to a good place to stay that’s very private.”
What the $60 referred to
In a follow-up article dated April 3, Us Weekly said Joseph’s initial $60 was for calls and other privileges, and that the amount was determined by the cash in his wallet when he was booked at Washington County. That is the outlet’s explanation of the call; it does not independently establish a general jail policy. The amount was not reported as a court fine or bond.

What “very private” does—and does not—establish
Kendra’s wording indicates that she described her accommodation as private. The reports do not name the place, specify its type, or establish who brought her there or arranged the stay. It would be speculation to identify a shelter, residence, or other location from this description alone.
What the reports say about the children
Us Weekly’s April 3 report said Kendra did not then have custody of the couple’s four children. That is a time-specific report, not confirmation of their present living arrangements or custody status. The call coverage and subsequent article do not establish where the children were staying, whether they were with Kendra, or what arrangements may have changed since then.

Separate proceedings and allegations
The call story is distinct from the criminal proceedings. On March 31, the Associated Press reported that Joseph posted a $600,000 bond after appearing in a Florida court. AP also reported Florida charges against Joseph and separate Arkansas charges against Joseph and Kendra, including counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and false imprisonment. Charges are allegations, not findings of guilt.
Us Weekly reported on March 31 that Joseph had entered a written not-guilty plea and requested a jury trial. That report describes the procedural status at that time; the cited coverage does not establish the current status of the cases or family arrangements as of October 8, 2026.
