Jorginho initially said a security guard upset his 11-year-old stepdaughter, Ada, at a São Paulo hotel where Chappell Roan was staying. Roan denied seeing the family or directing anyone to approach them. Jorginho later clarified that the guard represented another artist, said Roan knew nothing about the encounter, and called the connection to her a misunderstanding.
What Jorginho said happened at the hotel
In March 2026, Jorginho said his wife, Catherine Harding, and her daughter Ada were staying at the same São Paulo hotel as Roan while the singer was in Brazil for Lollapalooza. According to Jorginho’s initial account, Ada recognized Roan, walked past her table, and returned to her family without speaking to her or asking for anything. He said a security guard then approached Harding and Ada at breakfast, spoke aggressively, and left the child distressed. BBC Sport reported Jorginho’s account; it was an allegation about the encounter, not an independently established finding that Roan had directed or witnessed it.
How Chappell Roan responded
Roan said she had not seen the mother and daughter, had not asked a guard to speak to them, and that the guard was not part of her personal security. She expressed sympathy for the family and rejected the claim that she hates children or fans. In a statement reported by BBC Sport, she said: “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children, that is crazy.” The Associated Press also covered Roan’s response.
Jorginho’s later clarification
In April, Jorginho said the guard had publicly confirmed he was representing another artist at the hotel. He said Roan had no knowledge of what happened at breakfast and had not requested that anyone approach his family. Jorginho described the link to Roan as a misunderstanding, expressed regret for the impact on Roan and both families, and said the matter was closed. “It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight,” he wrote, as quoted by BBC Sport. The Guardian reported on his clarification.

What remains unknown
The reports do not establish why the guard approached Harding and Ada. Jorginho’s later account separates Roan from the guard and says she did not direct the encounter, but does not explain the guard’s reason for speaking with the family.
