Joondalup Festival 2025 ran from 15 March to 5 April, and its free Water Dragons performance was advertised as a headline attraction at Hillarys Boat Harbour. The event has concluded; its published dates and showtimes are historical, not an upcoming schedule.
What was Water Dragons?
The City of Joondalup’s official festival program described Water Dragons as a Western Australian premiere: three colossal puppets, each 15 metres long, gliding through Hillarys Boat Harbour. Jet-ski performers propelled the dragons, accompanied by a light and soundscape. The program presented the spectacle as the festival’s headline act at the harbour.
When and where was it scheduled?
The official program listed Water Dragons at Hillarys Boat Harbour from 15 March through 5 April 2025, Wednesday to Sunday. It advertised two 30-minute shows each evening, at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. Those are the published schedule details; the listing alone does not establish whether every show took place as planned.
Was admission free?
Yes. The official program marked Water Dragons as free to attend.

How did the performance fit into Joondalup Festival?
The City of Joondalup described the 2025 festival as three back-to-back weeks featuring more than 50 free and ticketed happenings across over 11 venues. The wider program included art, music and performance at locations around the City, including Hillarys Boat Harbour.
The City also stated that more than 250,000 people from around Perth and beyond visit the Joondalup region during the festival period, many for the first time. That figure refers to visitors to the region during the festival period; it is not an audience count for Water Dragons.

What did the Mayor say about the festival?
In a 15 January 2025 report, PerthNow quoted Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob describing the program as a celebration of the community’s diversity and creativity, and of what makes the City a vibrant place to live, work and visit. The report also quoted him calling Water Dragons a “showstopper.” These remarks were reported by PerthNow, rather than published as an official transcript.
