Jonathan Goodwin was seriously injured during a rehearsal for America’s Got Talent: Extreme at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Georgia on October 14, 2021. His 2023 lawsuit alleged that failures in stunt design and safety caused the accident. The latest located case update, from November 4, 2025, reported a conditional settlement; it did not disclose terms or confirm that the case had been dismissed.
What happened to Jonathan Goodwin?
Goodwin, whose legal name is Jonathan Harvey, was rehearsing an escape stunt at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, for NBC’s America’s Got Talent: Extreme. The Los Angeles Times reported that a show spokesperson confirmed an accident during rehearsal and said Goodwin was responsive and taken to a hospital for medical care. What injuries did he suffer?
According to the account of the complaint reported by Entertainment Tonight, Goodwin was crushed and burned by two exploding vehicles and then fell approximately 20 to 40 feet, striking the ground. The complaint listed paralysis, internal injuries including the loss of his left kidney, fractures to his legs, ribs and shoulders, and extensive third-degree burns. What did Goodwin’s lawsuit allege?
Filed in Los Angeles in October 2023, the suit named multiple production companies and NBCUniversal and alleged negligence and failures in planning and carrying out the stunt. As reported from the complaint, Goodwin alleged that the stunt had been modified without adequate testing with no person in it, that the production lacked sufficient redundancies and suitable safety nets, and that people responsible for the design and execution were not adequately qualified. Goodwin’s attorney, Stuart Fraenkel, told Entertainment Tonight that producers and staff could have taken steps to protect him and characterized the production as rushed and chaotic. That is the attorney’s description of the events, not an independent finding about how the accident occurred.
What is the latest status of the lawsuit?
On November 4, 2025, MyNewsLA reported that counsel had notified the judge of a conditional settlement. The report did not disclose settlement terms and said the plaintiff’s attorneys expected to request dismissal by January 9. It does not confirm that dismissal was subsequently entered, so the final disposition should not be stated as settled or dismissed without a newer reliable update. MyNewsLA, November 4, 2025

Is this the other America’s Got Talent accident lawsuit?
No. This headline refers to Goodwin’s 2021 stunt accident and the lawsuit he filed in 2023. A separate case involved Maureen Allen, whose family sued after she fell from a wheelchair at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium while America’s Got Talent was filming in 2017.
