On The Daily Show on September 8, 2025, Jon Stewart mocked the rush to speculate about Donald Trump’s health after a brief period out of public view—and the coverage of his appearance. His remarks were a comedy monologue, not a medical assessment.
What Stewart said about the death rumors
Stewart opened by joking about how quickly Trump’s absence prompted talk that he had died: “It does say something about the ubiquity of Donald Trump in our lives that we don’t hear from him for 20 minutes and we’re like, ‘He’s dead!’” The line targeted the speed of the speculation, not evidence of Trump’s condition.
He also took aim at descriptions of Trump’s appearance, saying, “These really are not medical appraisals. It’s just more like insults.” Stewart then added: “I don’t know if he’s dying. He’s weirdly puffy.” That was a punchline, not a diagnosis or confirmation of illness. Rolling Stone Australia’s September 9 recap recounts the monologue and quotes these remarks.
Why the segment invoked a “Make-A-Wish kid”
Stewart’s routine moved from the rumors and commentary about Trump’s appearance to the way his supporters seemed to be granting him wishes. The official Daily Show clip frames the joke in its title: “If Trump Isn’t Dying, Why Is He Being Treated Like a Make-A-Wish Kid?” The clip’s title captures the segment’s satirical premise; it does not establish anything about Trump’s health.
