The group has released two studio albums and a live album; Depp has also recorded with Jeff Beck, including the 2022 album 18 and a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation.”
Is Johnny Depp in a band?
Yes. Depp is a guitarist and vocalist in Hollywood Vampires, a working rock band formed around Depp, Alice Cooper, and Joe Perry. Tommy Henriksen is also identified as a member, contributing as a musician, musical director, and producer. The project is not a solo act called the “Johnny Depp Band”: his better-known recorded work is with groups and collaborators.
Hollywood Vampires is more than a celebrity gathering. Its members have made studio recordings and performed live, combining classic-rock covers with original songs. In a 2026 interview with Guitar World, Perry described the audience’s reaction to Depp as changing once the music begins: “After the second or third song people get over the shock of seeing Johnny Depp up there with a guitar. And it’s legit. The band really plays. And you know what? He’s a great player.”
Perry’s point is useful context for understanding the group’s identity: Depp’s fame may draw attention, but the band’s catalogue and concert work are the substance of the project. Perry also said, “Johnny has always wanted to be in a band, and now, finally, he’s in one.” These are Perry’s assessments in an interview, rather than an independent technical evaluation of Depp’s playing. Still, they underline that Depp’s role is not limited to appearing as a guest at a celebrity event.

How music came before acting
Depp’s early ambition was to make music, not to become an actor. A 2026 interview recounts that he picked up guitar as a teenager, left school to pursue music, moved to Los Angeles with his band, and sought a record deal before acting became his career. Those details are reported biographical context rather than a claim established here through a memoir or archival record.
The sequence matters because Depp’s later music work did not begin as a side project created after he became famous in films. The reported early pursuit of a record deal places band ambitions before his screen career took off. The available account does not establish a full early-band discography or provide a catalogue of recordings from that period, so it is more accurate to describe the background as a musical ambition than to imply a separate, well-documented solo career.
Perry has also described Depp’s long-standing wish to be in a band. In the same Guitar World interview, he said: “Johnny has always wanted to be in a band, and now, finally, he’s in one.” The quote captures the contrast between Depp’s public identity as a film star and his continuing role as a musician. Perry also offered a direct endorsement of Depp as a player, while Cooper’s comments describe a shared vocal arrangement in the band.
What is Hollywood Vampires?
Hollywood Vampires is a rock band whose repertoire joins tributes to influential artists with original material. Alice Cooper has explained the group’s rotating vocal roles: “I drop out and Johnny sings, you know? And then I sing a couple more songs and I drop out and Joe sings.” That arrangement means Depp is one of the band’s singers as well as a guitarist, rather than its only frontman. Cooper’s description presents the band as a group in which different members take turns singing, not a vehicle built around one lead vocalist.
Cooper has also emphasized the band’s interest in performing the source material well. In a 2026 interview with Louder, he said: “The thing is, I love playing songs by The Doors, Jimi or the Small Faces, and we worked hard to really nail them as a good tribute to the bands concerned.” That covers-focused purpose sits alongside the group’s original songs. The track lists bear out both sides of the approach: familiar songs associated with other artists appear beside titles credited to the band’s own repertoire.

This balance helps answer what Hollywood Vampires is musically without reducing it to either a tribute act or a collection of originals. Covers are a prominent part of the catalogue, especially on the first album, while Rise also includes original titles. Cooper’s explanation offers the band’s own stated rationale for its tributes: the aim is to play the source songs as a good tribute, rather than simply to use recognizable titles as a hook.
Hollywood Vampires albums and where to start
The band’s catalogue offers three clear entry points: two studio albums and one live release. The official Hollywood Vampires music page lists their release dates and track titles. Looking at format, repertoire, and chronology is a more useful way to choose between them than trying to declare one the best: the available catalogue information establishes what each release contains, not an independent ranking of sound or performance.
| Release | Format and date | What the track list suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Hollywood Vampires | Studio album, September 11, 2015 | Classic-rock covers include “My Generation,” “Whole Lotta Love,” and “Manic Depression”; the track list also includes “Raise the Dead” and “My Dead Drunk Friends.” |
| Rise | Studio album, June 21, 2019 | Original titles include “I Want My Now” and “We Gotta Rise,” alongside tributes such as “Heroes” and “People Who Died.” |
| At Montreux Jazz Festival | Live album, released August 14, 2026 | The tracks are labeled as live at the festival in 2018. This release documents an earlier performance; it is not a recording of a 2026 concert. |
Choose by the kind of recording you want
- For a studio introduction built around classic rock: start with the self-titled 2015 album, whose track list prominently features covers, including “My Generation,” “Whole Lotta Love,” and “Manic Depression.” Its title and additional tracks such as “Raise the Dead” and “My Dead Drunk Friends” also make clear that the album is not simply a list of covers.
- For a later studio album balancing originals and tributes: try Rise (2019). “I Want My Now” and “We Gotta Rise” are among its original titles, while “Heroes” and “People Who Died” show that the band continued to include tribute material.
- For a concert recording: choose At Montreux Jazz Festival, released in 2026 from the band’s 2018 performance. It offers the live option in the catalogue and is distinct from the two studio albums.
These are distinctions in release type and repertoire, not a quality ranking. The available catalogue information establishes track titles and dates, not a comparative assessment of sound or performance. In particular, the Montreux release date should not be mistaken for the date of the performance: the band identifies its tracks as live at the festival in 2018, even though the album was issued in 2026.
The releases also provide a simple chronology for listeners. The self-titled album arrived in 2015, Rise followed in 2019, and the live Montreux recording was released in 2026. Someone looking for the band’s earlier studio statement can start with the first album; a listener interested in a later studio release can move to Rise; and a listener who specifically wants a live document can choose the Montreux album. Those are practical listening routes based on the catalogue, not claims that one is more definitive or better recorded than another.
What did Johnny Depp record with Jeff Beck?
Depp’s most prominent recorded collaboration outside Hollywood Vampires was with guitarist Jeff Beck. Apple’s catalogue lists 18 (2022) as a joint album and includes “Isolation,” their recording of the John Lennon song. The same artist catalogue lists Depp’s singles “I Got A Line On You” and “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory” with Alice Cooper.

These credits point to two kinds of collaboration in Depp’s recorded work: an album-length project with Beck and separately listed singles with Cooper. “Isolation” is the clearest track to seek out if the question is specifically what Depp recorded with Beck. The 2022 album 18 is the broader starting point for that pairing. The Alice Cooper singles are listed as collaborations too, but they are not Hollywood Vampires album tracks simply because Cooper is also part of that band.
Catalogue listings are useful confirmation of these releases, but they should not be mistaken for a complete session-credit discography. They establish notable recorded collaborations, not every track or performance Depp may have contributed to. Apple’s artist page is evidence for the listed album and singles; it does not by itself establish that the list covers every musical appearance across Depp’s career.
What has Hollywood Vampires been doing recently?
The band’s official site announced a UK and European tour for 2026, with subsequent notices adding dates and changing a venue in Croatia. It also highlighted a music documentary, alongside the 2026 live album. Tour schedules, venues, and ticket availability can change; consult the official band site for current announcements rather than relying on an older listing.
The live album’s 2026 release date and its 2018 performance labels make the chronology important: the release brings an older concert recording to listeners; it does not indicate the performance took place in 2026. The same care applies to tour information. The research documents official announcements and later changes, but it is not a guarantee that a particular date, venue, or ticket remains available when a reader checks. The band’s site is the appropriate place to confirm current details.
The official catalogue is also the best starting point for checking the band’s release titles and track lists. It does not establish which physical formats or editions a retailer currently has in stock, so anyone looking for a CD, vinyl edition, or other specific product should verify the exact listing with the seller. Release information and retail availability are separate questions.

What Depp’s music career amounts to
Depp’s music work is best understood as a sustained band and collaboration career alongside acting, not as a separate solo-band discography. Hollywood Vampires is its central group project, with two studio albums spanning a mix of covers and originals and a live release documenting a 2018 concert. His Jeff Beck collaboration adds a distinct recorded chapter, especially 18 and “Isolation.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe evidence also gives a useful way to separate the parts of the story. His early musical ambition predates his acting career, as recounted in the 2026 interview. Hollywood Vampires is the continuing band context, with Depp sharing vocal duties and guitar work among a group that includes Cooper, Perry, and Henriksen. The albums show the group moving between classic-rock tributes and original material, while the live release provides a separate record of a 2018 performance. Beck and Cooper collaborations extend the catalogue beyond the band.
For a listener, the clearest path is therefore not to search for a solo Depp band album. Start with the Hollywood Vampires studio releases if you want the band’s mix of covers and originals, choose the Montreux release for a live recording, and turn to 18 or “Isolation” for the Jeff Beck collaboration. That keeps the distinctions between band albums, live material, and other recorded partnerships clear.
