Power to the People is a deep dive into John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s early New York period, pairing politically engaged songs with recordings of their 1972 One to One benefit concerts. Released on 10 October 2025, the 12-disc Super Deluxe edition brings together concert performances, a reworked presentation of Sometime in New York City, demos, home recordings, studio material and memorabilia.
What the box set covers
Power to the People focuses on Lennon and Ono’s early years in New York rather than attempting to document their full careers. Its musical span reaches from the 1969 peace anthem “Give Peace a Chance” to the politically charged 1972 album Sometime in New York City and the One to One concerts at Madison Square Garden. The official release description places the work in the context of their Greenwich Village life and activism around anti-war politics, feminism, prison reform, racial injustice, the Attica Prison uprising, Angela Davis and civil rights. The John Lennon release page presents these themes as part of the project’s framing.
The set revisits Sometime in New York City through New York City (The Ultimate Mixes), described as a reimagined and remixed collection. It also gathers alternate and developmental material, including evolution documentaries, elements mixes, studio jams, other live recordings and home recordings. The result is both a focused document of a particular period and a way to hear the songs in different stages and settings.
What is in the 9-CD/3-Blu-ray Super Deluxe edition?
The physical Super Deluxe box contains nine CDs and three Blu-rays. The official store listing describes a hybrid “best of” One to One concert presentation as well as separate afternoon and evening shows. It also specifies HD Stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos for the concert audio on Blu-ray. The precise material and audio formats differ by edition; the store’s specifications apply to this box set, not automatically to the other formats.

Why the One to One concerts matter
Lennon and Ono performed the One to One benefit concerts at Madison Square Garden on 30 August 1972. Official release materials describe them as Lennon’s only full-length concerts after the Beatles and as the couple’s final full-length concerts together.

The shows raised money for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The official store says the two performances played to a combined audience of 40,000 and raised over $1.5 million, which the store gives as a 2025 equivalent of $11.5 million. Those figures are the store’s published account.
Ono described the concert as “our effort in Grassroots Politics” and said it embodied what she and Lennon believed in: “Rock for Peace and Enlightenment.” Lennon told NME in 1972 that the Madison Square Garden gig was the best music he had enjoyed playing since The Cavern or Hamburg, comparing its feeling to the Beatles “really get[ting] into it.” Both recollections are quoted in Universal Music Canada’s announcement.
