John Farnham: Finding the Voice is an authorized 2023 Australian documentary about how one of the country’s best-known singers found an artistic voice of his own. Directed by Poppy Stockell, it traces Farnham’s path from early pop fame and years of uncertainty to the success of Whispering Jack and “You’re the Voice.”

The film follows Farnham’s career from his Melbourne beginnings and early-1960s popularity through periods of professional difficulty and personal instability, culminating in the breakthrough of Whispering Jack. Its central idea is the difference between having a remarkable singing voice and finding an artistic identity: Farnham’s story is presented as a journey from singer to artist.
That framing also gives the documentary a personal dimension. VicScreen quotes director Poppy Stockell describing the film as “In many ways, this film is a love story between Glenn and John.” The line points to the relationship between Farnham and his wife, Jillian “Glenn” Farnham, as part of the story, rather than making the film only a chronological account of hit records.

The official film site says the documentary contains over 40 songs by Farnham and collaborators. That makes the music part of its storytelling, not merely a backdrop. The official soundtrack is titled Finding the Voice: Music from the Feature Documentary; Wheatley Records says it was released in tandem with the film and reports that it received an ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack.

Poppy Stockell directed the documentary and co-wrote it with Paul Clarke. Olivia Hoopmann produced it. The official film site also lists Mikael Borglund, Martin Fabinyi and Paul Clarke among the executive producers. Production details name Beyond Oz, Blink TV and Finding the Voice Pty Ltd; Screen Australia identifies Beyond Oz Pty Ltd.

The Australian Classification public exhibition record rates the film M for coarse language. Its content advice mentions references to depression and illness, addiction and sleeping pills, brief war images, coarse language and brief buttock nudity.
