John Eimen’s early television career
Eimen was born in Chicago on October 2, 1949. According to the Television Academy, an entertainment agent connected to his first-grade teacher discovered him in a Los Angeles-area classroom. That introduction led to work during the exceptionally busy period of live-action American television in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
His television debut came in the premiere episode of Leave It to Beaver, where he appeared as one of Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver’s classmates. Eimen later had speaking appearances on the series as well. He was a recognizable child performer associated with the show, but he was not one of the principal Cleaver family stars.
For viewers revisiting the series, Leave It to Beaver: The Complete Series DVD is an archival way to watch the program. The release represents the series itself—not Eimen’s complete career or every appearance he made on the show—so collectors should check the live listing for the current edition and contents.
His best-known continuing role: McKeever and the Colonel
Eimen’s most substantial series role was Cadet Monk Roberts, often identified in program materials simply as Monk, on NBC’s McKeever and the Colonel. The sitcom aired during the 1962–63 season and was set around a military academy.

It remains the clearest example of his sustained television work and an important part of the career between his early Leave It to Beaver appearances and his later guest roles.
Other television credits
Eimen’s credited television work also included appearances on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Bachelor Father, Wagon Train, The Untouchables, The Twilight Zone, Have Gun—Will Travel, Lawman, and Petticoat Junction.
His final reported screen appearance came in 1967, on Petticoat Junction. That ending did not mark the end of his working life, however. As an adult, Eimen moved away from acting and built a career that took him into music, language teaching, and international aviation.
Music, Japan, and a second career in aviation
As he approached adulthood, Eimen sang and played guitar. He later spent more than a decade in Japan, where he taught English, performed in clubs, and appeared on Japanese television. His experience in Japan and ability to speak Japanese later proved useful when he returned to the United States in the mid-1990s and became an international flight attendant.
Eimen continued in that profession until retiring in 2020. His post-acting life was therefore considerably broader than his child-star résumé: music and performance led to overseas teaching and cultural work, followed by a long career serving international travelers.

Survivors
Forbes reported that Eimen is survived by his wife of 51 years, Midori; their sons, Daniel and Chris; and his grandsons, Lucas and Oliver. Those family details come from obituary reporting.
John Eimen’s legacy is that of one of the many child performers who helped fill the television landscape of the late 1950s and 1960s. Leave It to Beaver provided his most recognizable early association, while McKeever and the Colonel gave him his clearest continuing series role. His later work in music, Japan, language teaching, and international aviation made his life considerably larger than the brief period in which television audiences knew him as a child actor.
