John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois became co-anchors of CBS Evening News after the 2024 presidential election, as CBS moved the broadcast back to New York. Their tenure ended with their final broadcast on December 19, 2025. CBS later named Tony Dokoupil as their successor, with a planned start date of January 5, 2026.

Who were the new CBS Evening News anchors?

CBS announced on August 1, 2024, that John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois would take over as co-anchors after the presidential election. Dickerson was a CBS News senior national correspondent and anchor of CBS News Prime Time; DuBois was an anchor of CBS Evening News weekend editions and a longtime New York-based correspondent. CBS framed the appointment as part of a broader team of journalists rather than a two-anchor-only format. CBS’s announcement, August 1, 2024.

Why did Norah O’Donnell leave CBS Evening News?

O’Donnell was not being replaced immediately when CBS announced the Dickerson-DuBois appointment. She was to remain anchor and lead political coverage through the 2024 election, then move into an expanded senior correspondent role, reporting longform stories and conducting interviews across CBS and Paramount properties. CBS described this as a role transition; its announcement did not characterize it as a departure from the company. CBS’s August 1, 2024 announcement.

Where was CBS Evening News filmed?

The announced plan moved the broadcast back to the CBS Broadcast Center in New York. In January 2025, CBS Mornings described the program as broadcasting from Studio 47 in New York City, with a fresh look. CBS Mornings’ January 2025 video.

What format and reporting team did CBS announce?

CBS described a new format and cadence designed to move beyond a sequence of clipped headlines and emphasize reporting, context, and subject-matter expertise. The network also named several contributors to the expanded team:

  • Margaret Brennan, CBS’s chief foreign affairs correspondent and moderator of Face the Nation, would regularly lead Washington coverage during major political or foreign-affairs news.
  • Lonnie Quinn would serve as chief weathercaster, presenting forecasts from an augmented- and virtual-reality studio in New York.
  • 60 Minutes correspondents would contribute when they had news to break.
  • On the Road and Eye on America would continue as signature segments.

Bill Owens, then executive producer of 60 Minutes and named supervising producer for the move to New York, said the broadcast would not be “the traditional headlines that move from one clipped story to the next.” Guy Campanile, named executive producer of CBS Evening News, described its mission as making each story “additive, distinctive and elegant.” These were CBS’s stated aims for the format, not a guarantee that every broadcast would follow an identical structure.
