John Cena reportedly signed a five-year contract to remain with WWE as an official ambassador after ending his in-ring career. His final match is no longer upcoming: WWE says Gunther defeated Cena by submission at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025.
What John Cena’s WWE ambassador deal means
USA Insider reported on December 11, 2025, that Cena had signed a five-year contract as an official WWE ambassador. The report attributes his comments about the role to a December 9 interview with WWE’s Tom Rinaldi. No contract document or financial terms are established in the report, so the duration is the reported detail—not a basis for inferring pay, duties, or other conditions. USA Insider’s report
The key distinction is between competing in the ring and remaining connected to WWE. Cena described the possibility of passing on his strengths and gifts, promoting WWE, and mentoring talent. He also said, “Maybe ambassadorship comes with letting more people know to watch this, which was my goal in the first place.” These are possibilities he discussed, not a published list of contractual obligations.
How the farewell was scheduled
WWE announced a year-long farewell tour on September 30, 2025, and said Cena’s final match would headline Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. In its announcement, WWE listed 17 World Championships, five U.S. Championship title reigns, and two Royal Rumble victories among Cena’s career highlights. WWE’s final-match announcement
