Joe DiMeo announced his engagement to Jessica Koby in November 2024, with the couple saying they planned to elope in Hawaii on December 5. The announcement was reported by PerthNow on November 16, 2024. The available reports establish their plans at that time, but do not confirm whether the ceremony took place.
What Joe DiMeo announced about his engagement
PerthNow reported that DiMeo shared the engagement news and posted the caption, “Big things going down on December 5th 🤵🏻👰🏻”. The outlet also reported Jessica Koby’s explanation that they had planned the wedding before the engagement. These are social-media captions as reproduced by PerthNow, rather than independently verified posts.
The couple’s wedding website lists the names Joseph DiMeo and Jessica Perez and says they planned to elope in Hawaii on December 5. Together, the report and website document the engagement announcement and intended wedding date; neither establishes what happened afterward.
Why DiMeo is known for a groundbreaking transplant
In August 2020, NYU Langone Health performed what it describes as the first successful face and double-hand transplant of its kind, with DiMeo as the recipient. The hospital says the surgery lasted approximately 23 hours and involved more than 140 healthcare professionals. Those figures describe this operation, not a typical transplant or a general measure of transplant outcomes.

DiMeo had suffered third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body in a July 2018 car accident, according to NYU Langone. The hospital describes extensive reconstructive treatment before the transplant, followed by inpatient rehabilitation at Rusk and then outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy. The transplant was part of a long course of care, not a simple or complete cure.
The support around his recovery
Recovery also involved support for DiMeo’s family. myFace reported that it provided 62 nights of housing near NYU Langone during pre-surgery care, surgery, recovery and follow-up. That account offers a glimpse of the practical support surrounding his treatment without reducing the story to the operation alone.
